Sorry to see Phil Avery’s left. For me, one of the better forecasters and he’ll be missed.
The worst forecasters IMO are Darren Bett (always seems like he’d rather be elsewhere), Louise Lear (patronising delivery, bit like a Playschool presenter), Nick Miller (delivery like a military briefing), Simon King (another like Darren Bett), Matt Taylor (just can’t get on with his voice), Helen Willetts. I don’t doubt their ability to forecast or interpret a forecast; it’s their presenting.
The best BBC forecasters IMO are Ben Rich, Chris Fawkes, and Tomasz Schafernaker (not much in it), Alina Jenkins and Stav Danaos, Carol Kirkwood and Susan Powell.
The worst thing is the new graphics package which has been disastrous, how small the UK appears, the dark blue background to the text, the loss of lightning on precipitation screens, etc etc. I’m sure it’s well documented. Since switching to MeteoGroup I’ve noticed presenters have less confidence in the forecasts than with the Met Office (especially long range but also from hour to hour when the situation is fluid/developing quickly).
To be fair, Tony Hall has a lot to answer for about the BBC as a whole, the BBC needs a serious change.

Remind me to publicly criticise the way that you speak whilst doing your job sometime. Jeez.

It was crap, and the CA surely could have slipped in a quick apology before launching into the lottery results
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the poor microphone on Darren Betts forecast after ten o clock news last night

I didn’t even realise Phil Avery had left until i saw this thread. What a shame, he was an excellent presenter, great at making one liner jokes and he worked well with Simon when on Afternoon Live. He’ll be missed!
