Now that will be wierd... he will have presented nearly all BBC News progorammes then,

BBC Weekend News
BBC Ten O'Clock News
Newsnight
BBC News 24
Breakfast
Weekend 24

The only things left will be BBC One O'Clock News ,BBC Six O'Clock news, and the Daytime News Bulletins, is he the next BIG MOIRA?

I'm sure Jon Sopel has presented the One O'Clock News before, in the old days when Edward Stourton and Justin Webb used to be the regular presenters. He may even have done the six back then.

I'm not sure that he will be the new big Moira though - he hasn't got the hair for it!

Interesting to hear that he is doing the weekend bulletins next week. Does anyone know who's down for Breakfast next week - are Bill and Dermot back, or are the two Michaels continuing?

In their usual shifts? I mean, Dermot and Natasha Monday-Thursday, Bill with Sian Friday-Sunday?

Natasha's on holiday still next week so its Sian Monday-Thursday and I think Jules on Friday or it might be Sian. lol. Razz Very Happy

I think everyone is back from next week, except fiona, natasha and possibly anna still. Huw is in for fiona, sian is in for natasha, ergo jules is in for sian on friday. darren is in for anna. Which means darren will not be on the weekend, unless anna is back.

and your'e right jon sopel would need to grow his hair a bit.

Does anyone know how Moira Stuart has been given such a small role on BBC News, considering she is the only one with a royal honour (OBE)

Because, IIRC, Moira is the last of the 'continuity announcer' newsreaders - not a journalist presenter. Someone on here said that when she did the Six O'Clock News, she didn't do many interviews. She got an OBE for her service to broadcasting, which she quite rightly deserved.

Ahhh... got you , makes sence really. If shes the last of the continuity newsreaders then they need to hang on to her... otherwise it would be the end of an era.... who were the other continuity newsreaders? I suppose Ed Stourton was?

I don't think Ed Stourton was - he used to anchor the 1 on his own, which involved him doing all sorts of journalistic things rather than just reading the news. And don't forget he's now doing news programmes on radio.

I think they got rid of most of these "continuity announcer" newsreaders long ago when trained journalists came in to take their place. They kept hold of Moira simply because she did what she did particularly well.

By the way, what do people think of Mr Sopel on the BBC1 weekend bulletins? I think he's been doing pretty well.

I do to. Wherever Jon is, he takes to the scenario like a duck to water.

Ed Stourton's not a continuity newsreader. Far from it! He's regularly doing the heavy interviews on the Today programme on Radio 4 and I've seen him on Correspondent (doing investigative reporting) on BBC2 before too.

I agree with that - I always thought he was good on Breakfast, he was an excellent correspondent in Paris, he does better than many on News 24 and now he's shown himself to be quite competent in reading national bulletins.

I don't think he'll ever be a big BBC News star (like Huw Edwards or Sophie Raworth), but he's excellent for fill in and for more minor roles.
