Hmm, if that rule wasn't there I could probably see something along the lines of "Harry's wedding vows - live, next!" and everybody standing around in the venue waiting for suitable adverts - such as "Paddypower latest odds on Harry to drop the ring 15/1 as of 30 seconds ago", Cheerios, "HI I'M BARRY SCOTT!" and the never ending sales at DFS - to finish airing. The BBC is offering local communities a special one-off dispensation to mark the Royal Wedding of HRH Prince Harry and Ms. Megan Markle on Saturday May 19, allowing the public to come together and take part in the occasion.

The dispensation allows those celebrating the Royal Wedding through organising special events and parties in town halls, community centres and streets across Britain, where TV is not usually watched, to screen the event live without needing to purchase a licence. The dispensation will also apply to shops and events such as agricultural shows.

In the US I believe CBS is having three specials in primetime - one the night of. They are starting 4AM and ABC is staring at 5AM.

I covered NBC in the other thread where they will start at 4:30AM.

Edit : I will find and post the full coverage plans.

Edit 1 : It will be pretty hard to miss if your awake. Sorry for the double posts apparently there’s a character limit. I imagine some people will be upset to find out that their weekend local news is preempted or if they shift it to a subchannel or sister station while wedding watchers may be upset with frequent tickers directing viewers to the appropriate channel.

Edit 2 : I wonder if E! UK will air the same program as the US.

Also who is coordinating everything - The BBC with ITN and Sky helping as needed? I seem to recall the feed costing six figures for non EBU members.

AIUI the BBC will be providing a host feed, with third parties buying in access to it. Sky regularly buy into the BBC's coverage, and has co-operated with helicopter sharing, ITV usually complain a bit but then also buy in.

AIUI the BBC host feed this year will be UHD HLG HDR, with Sky showing it in UHD SDR (don't think Sky support HDR yet), and given that the BBC recently tested UHD HLG HDR live-streaming on iPlayer I wouldn't bet against it being on iPlayer.
