The Wetherfield Recorder closed down in 1990
It's the Gazette. Blimey, which paper do yo find on your doormat when you get home?
The Daily Herald.
It's a shame they haven't built a permanent Weatherfield Recorder set

Council press releases? Luxury. Copying and pasting misinformed comments on village Facebook groups is what counts for original journalism with my local rag
That's journalism practically everywhere these days, sadly. Even the BBC news website builds stories around social media posts now.
In reality they’d have two reporters based miles away copying and pasting Weatherfield council press releases!

Also it would have been out of shot on most TVs in those days, and only visible now because we see the whole picture.
There's already a (closed) gym and apartments on Victoria Street, as well as the kebab shop, Street Cars and several other businesses. It's not just another Coronation Street style back street. Since it was first mentioned in the series it had already been redeveloped.
But I think people are thinking about it too much. It's just extra filming space so they're not confined to Coronation Street.

Watching episodes from the 60s, 70s and 80s, boom mics seemed to drop into shot a lot. We've even seen it a couple of times on the ITV3 episodes. I guess it didn't help that back then they basically did the whole show "as live" and it was too much effort to start again over such a thing.

The new set areas look great - in terms of the shows history, I just don’t believe those shops have always been there. Surely someone would have referenced the tram station or other shop around the corner. And a Costa on a back street? Never.
I would have gone for something a bit newer, apartments with a gym, at least it’s more realistic. Victoria Street terraces
demolished for this etc

I wonder if they'll have an "other caff" as in Eastenders. Because apparently all that's needed for perfect privacy and anonymity is to walk round a corner.

I'm sure that other cafe in EastEnders used to be used on Grange Hill. Could be wrong though.
Like some parts of the EastEnders set (like the allotments and the park) I guess it's possible the new parts aren't meant to be in the same place in relation to where they actually are on the set in relation to the street.

Lovely photo essay in the Guardian, for those who like seeing pics behind the scenes!

...what? "Alien to the larger audience ear"? This reads like a Harry Enfield sketch.

All the frontline characters speak echt Lancs. Not quite “eeh-bah-gum” but alien to the larger audience ear. Who in Kensington watches Corrie, bacon buttie and brew in hand? There are occasional Lapsang Souchong jokes in the programme making the point.

And ITV have just promoted the ITV3 repeats at the end of tonight's episode, I think for the first time!

This scene on the "Alan Bradley killed by a tram" episode on the Network DVD is interesting- looks like there's some tape damage, with audio interference and creases throughout the whole scene. I can't remember if Granada Plus showed it like it, but they probably edited that scene out if their copy was like this too. Wonder how ITV will handle it when they get there?
