More examples of Tegna's elegant news graphics from KGW in Portland, Oregon; I just love this look:

From the Netherlands, the late edition of RTL Nieuws from 1997:

The main edition, at 7:30pm, from 2004:

And fast forward to 2014, and a breakfast edition of RTL Nieuws, with a somewhat informally-dressed presenter:

Starting next week. They have plenty of correspondents there already. Supposedly the reasoning for waiting was because of all the news going on around here.

And nothing to do I'm sure with todays edition being scheduled to air as the Opening Ceremony was coming to a close, but hours before NBC actually screen it.

There also was reports that NBC didn’t want to break the ratings momentum they’ve gotten since it became Savannah and Hoda. It’s a long trip from New York to South Korea. I’m sure they didn’t want one (Matt usually flew ahead a day or two before the opening ceremony) let alone both of their hosts out a day or two during the sweeps period. Even though Today will likely win the period because of the Olympics.

They actually brought back Katie Couric to do the opening ceremony. I think Mike Tirico (Bob Costas’ heir apparent) are doing the ceremonies.

Also since people here like News intro compilations I made up one of the new graphics package from WBAL. Seems like they only have two options now day and night. They are probably filming or editing more.

The Friday night airing of the opening ceremony on NBC has been a little odd. None of the opening ceremony was shown until 8pm EST, and b-roll of the Sochi opening ceremony was used instead in most places. Also, the Olympic Zone, the program that NBC requires affiliates to produce during the Olympics, aired on Thursday, but not on Friday (today), also probably because of the tape delayed ceremony.

Some stations cleared the O Zone. I only watched some of it but it started a bit odd with that video profiling some of the athletes. It looked like once the ceremony started there wasn’t any b-roll.

But they edited the ceremony into a neat 3 hour package.

Since I got and paid for some software to be able to edit .TiVO files and transcode them I decided to get the most of it. So since there's a new graphics out here's WBAL's breaking news open, their Super Bowl and 70th Anniversary Spot.

Maybe the Olympic Zone branding is optional, but my understanding is that most of the OZone packages are must-runs for all affiliates.

It's an optional network offering, that must air right before the live eastern primetime broadcast (so at 7:30 ET / 4:30 PT). NBC is provides the open, five packages a day and five units of national ad inventory (out of 19). The graphics are the supposed to be the same throughout the country. The show must be produced by the local talent at home.

According to the contingencies there was not supposed to be an episode on Friday before the opening ceremony. However I saw WRC air one.

Edit: I decided to remove the full note that NBC posted.
