I always wondered why Sony have "Channel" in their channel names. We know it's a TV channel, and not a washing machine or something, so take it out. Sony Crime sounds better (and would have an easier to make out logo) rather than Sony Crime Channel. Same for Sony Movies / Sony Movie Channel.

It's a branding thing and its used for trailing on other TV channels. You'd end up with a BBC News/BBC News channel situation otherwise.
Perhaps because Sony is traditionally an electronics brand rather than a broadcaster, so they don’t want people to think of Sony Crime as illegal activities undertaken by the Sony corporation.

They could refer to it as Sony Crime channel in trailers but the logo and on screen look could be just Sony Crime. What could they get it confused with? If people are too dumb to realise Sony Crime is a tv channel from Sony specialising in crime themed programming and not an exposé on the corporations seedy underbelly then what hope does society have?!
