Some pres from NickSplat a late night block which takes over from Teen Nick in the US. It was originally called 'The 90's Are All That' essentially it's the 90's Nickelodeon in a block, complete with idents/bumpers from the 90s era.

MTV Germany recently switched to Free-TV and refreshed "some" of their graphics, which if you ask me, kind of is a breath of fresh air considering that most of MTV's branding has been this weird trippy drug-like branding.

However, sadly MTV still uses the drug-like idents which thankfully are only the idents, while the rest of the graphics are just Yellow and Black, and pretty slick if you ask me.

Really outdated IMO, it's been done before, yellow and black by CBBC and ABC in 1997, and lowercase helvetica by Five from 2002-08.

MTV US has had this Helvetica look since 2010 I believe. Only being tweaked and rolled out worldwide now.

I also love it, it’s so fresh.
The free tv thing is making me feel curious, how would MTV do if it replaced, say, 5Spike or 5Star?

MTV Germany used to be free back in the analogue days, and for a while when it went digital it stayed free. How long did they have it as a pay channel? I always remember MTV Germany, MTV 2 POP and Viva being the 3 good music channels back in the early 2000's as they played music, no programming hardly and they were uncensored so daytime swearing/raunchy videos was a welcome change.

MTV Germany actually was free for quite a while actually, 13 years to be exact before moving to pay TV in 2010-11. Now, they are basically going back to free TV which most people watch anyway, I suppose this is because of the ratings or they have enough money to go free-to-air? I dunno, anyone's guess at this point.

And a refreshed look for sister channel DR2 launched this month:

Judging by DR's announcement, the main news programming on the channel (DR2 Dagen and Deadline) will relaunch with new graphics/set in the near future.

That design is wonderful, simple, fresh and clever.

I love the accelerated flow between the presentational elements of the channel's.

The only thing that lets it down slightly, again is the same music.

Paramount Network launch..well pre-launch?-ish (they pretty much switched over the branding to Paramount)

This seems an odd decision, as Viacom (and others) have tried to exploit the Paramount brand previously as a TV channel. None seem to have ended well in terms of keeping the name.

BEWARE: this is a bit of a logo-fest! Very Happy

In 1995 Viacom created UPN (United Paramount Network) as a joint venture with United Television. When Viacom bought out Chris-Craft Industries' share (the owners of United Television), they intended to rebrand it as Paramount Network. That never happened, but they produced a logo for the new channel, which incidentally was their original name for the venture.

However, in a complicated exercise whereby the original Viacom renamed itself as CBS Corporation, its newly de-merged entity became the new Viacom.

The new CBS Corporation attempted to use the Paramount brand as a production arm, but then created a joint venture with Warner Brothers to create "The CW" as a network, which didn't use the Paramount brand at all (or Warner for that matter).

The new Viacom tried again with the Paramount brand, and in the UK we saw 2 channels created (Paramount Channels 1 & 2). These were then renamed as Paramount Comedy, before ultimately becoming the Comedy Central we have today.

In terms of marketing as a regular linear TV channel, Paramount seems to be something of a "poisoned chalice". It seems odd that Viacom are flogging this horse again in the US. I wonder if they are going to try it here in the UK again.

I see the rebrand of Spike as 5Spike as a suggestion that they won't, at least for the time being.
Woodpecker, Inspector Sands and WW Update gave kudos

At least Spike Lee will be happy with the rebrand to Paramount Network
