It will be interesting to see who gets the Washington Correspondent gig - the most prestigious correspondent role in RTÉ. They tend to go for someone slightly obscure so perhaps one of the outsiders will land the role.
I wonder when Keelin and Caitriona take over Six-One in January will it coincide with a studio relaunch or going further with a complete revamp of the bulletin format.
The current format has been in situ since its programme launch in 1988 with little changes since then.
I cannot see Keelin in particular taking over six one in its current guise, especially when her background is in more in depth interviewing; during her time on Prime Time and cover for Sean O’Rourke on R1.
This could be RTÉ’s opportunity to model a revamped bulletin on Channel 4 News.
No doubt the newish director of news and current affairs , Jon Williams will want to make his mark since taking over the role.
If RTE were to revamp their news in 2018, they should move out of the broom cupboard Studio 3 and into the slightly larger Studio 2 and have a complete new look.
However it seems unlikely, as RTE seem to have very little money and are happy with the 2014 refresh.
However I would like them to move out of Studio 3, it is far to small and was designed in 1961 for the old style short news bulletins.
One interesting observation was the press photo for the two presenters was taken in photo studio as opposed to been taken on the Studio 3 set.
This may be jumping ahead a little bit but this may lend itself to a there being a revamp of the set for Jan 18. While Studio 3 has held up well, it will be 9 years more or less in its current guise next year.
From the proceeds from the sale of land on the RTÉ campus earlier this year, this surely will be largely ring fenced for infrastructure upgrades after the redundancy programme has been completed. This will have to mean a significant upgrade in the newsroom and studio in order to bring it in line with other national broadcasters.

Studio 3 at RTE was opened in 1961 and is so small and has very little flexibility at just 728 Sq Ft. That is the size of most continuity studios, not national news studios.
They have a 1,980 Sq Ft Studio 2 which seems to be underused. I don't know what they use it for. They could easily move in here, have a bit more space and a new modern set. TV3 managed to upgrade their Studio 1 which opened in 1998, RTE needs to do the same.
Studio 2 used to be the home to their political programme of the 1980s Today Tonight and has enough space which could be used for RTE national news from January 2018.
