I saw this on Mondays episode and just wanted to ask. Rita has sliding doors going in to the lounge room in her house and another wooden door next to them that looks like it leads in to nothing?

The double doors were to seperate the living room and dining room whilst the brown door was the original door leading from the hallway.

But there's no dividing wall between the front room and the hallway, so both doors go between the two same rooms. I blame Len Fairclough.

The repeats, as far as we know will be January 1986, onwards in order

I think 1986 is a good starting point as the series was starting to get back on track after 1984/1985 which compared to 1976-1983 were weak years due to the departures of so many cast. Between October 1983 and the end of 1984 we lost Annie Walker, Len Fairclough, Eddie and Marion, Elsie Tanner, Albert Tatlock, Bert Tilsley, Stan Ogden and Fred Gee. 3 of them original characters and Len has been in the series since almost the start too. We also saw the last appearances of both Linda Cheveski and Billy Walker in 1984. The original Websters (Bill, Debbie and Kevin) weren't that popular apart from Kevin, and the Clayton Family introduced in 1985 were a disaster and written out within 6 months. 1986 with the arrival or Jenny, Alan, Sally (and Audrey becoming a regular character from late 1985) was definitely when the series picked up after a slow couple of years.

We're into February 1986 already as of today!

We'll be into June by the end of the month.

I've just watched this episode. The "brown door going to nowhere" could actually be the open kitchen door, or the door under t'stairs! Very Happy I couldn't get a clear view.

However, I did capture these images from ITV3HD.

It's a good job TVForum didn't exist in 1986. Can you imagine the apoplectic seizures that may have been induced by the completely random change in fonts at the end/start boards of the commercial break? Shocked

Furthermore, I'm not sure whether or not this is a fade to a genuine end board. It looks more like a fade to the original intro board, especially as it's not even horizontally/vertically aligned correctly.

Granada never had any idents at this time, other than a static board. (I know, I grew up in Granadaland , and was jealous of other regions when I saw them having better).

The end board should have "Production" under the logo, at least, if not also the copyright notice if it was from the original broadcast.

Just to ask is there any special break bumpers etc?

The cards not being aligned correctly doesn't really mean anything, that happened all the time in the days of physical captions and cards!

I think it did become electronically generated towards the end, 1987-88ish.

The intro board was on film attatched to the titles anyway, and was quite scratchy and grainy (which would likely be evident even on a still) which that clearly isn't!

Does anyone have the Network 80s boxset? What endcap's on there? The first episode we saw on Tuesday is on the 1986 disc, so we can make a direct comparison.

Granada Television productions of that era had "Colour Production" under the logo on the original endcap.

Yeah, those look like they're from different eras. End of Part One is in the same font as the Corrie logo at the time, but Part Two is in Helvetica, like the end credits... and like Thames's logo.

Going back to current day Corrie and I did like the final scene with Rita looking at the (very quiet) street and saying they had been through a lot together. I do hope Barbara Knox isn't leaving the show, although would be understandable if she wanted to retire.

And better she retires when she has the choice. If she does leave would be nice to get Mavis back if possible before she went.

Also what happened with Eileen Derbyshire - didn't she go on extended leave then opt not to return. Has Emily been referenced lately?

She was mentioned only last week!

Looking on YouTube, the nearest I can find from the original broadcasts (not G+ repeats, due to them not having the original front and endcaps), and the closest I can find is this episode from July 1985, which has "colour production" on both the front and endcap:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q94RmXPo8N8

And this from 1987 (not sure when exactly). which just has a "Granada" endcap- same as we're seeing on ITV3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9CgmPr5GDk

The only credits I can find from 1986 are from the Granada Plus broadcasts, so don't have the original endcap. However I did find the opening of the repeat of the "fire" episode (with its unique title sequence) recorded from HTV and the frontcap is just "Granada", no "Colour Production" tag.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDT7O4Z6A0g

So it's possible the "colour production" tag had been dropped by January 1986- it was definately gone by 1987. It was defiantely off the frontcap by Jan 1986 at least, as the frontcap we're seeing on ITV3 is clearly part of the titles, with the film scratches and weave.

One thing I have gathered from the G+ uploads on YT at least is that the copyright changed from "Granada UK" to "Granada Television" some time between March and June 1986- so we'll be able to see exactly when within the next few weeks.
