If they screen episodes at the rate of 10 per week we should see Hilda's exit in February 2018, then Brian bring stabbed in May and Alan hit by the tram in July.

Corrie went 3 times a week in October 1989 as you say. It went 4 times a week in November 1996.

Quite looking forward to watching 1986, ive not seen these episodes (apart from the ones released on DVD) since Granada Plus aired them in Mid/Late 2000. And if the repeats get as far as mid to late 1990s not seen them since they first aired.

It's somewhat surprising how quickly they will get through the episodes from the 80s, though obviously because it was only shown twice a week back then. The days of twice-weekly episodes of the soaps seem so long ago now.

I'll be interested to see the episode originally shown on 21st Dec 1988, the episode when Deirdre was held against her will at the flat of a man who had issues with the council. I remember that, as part of the closing credits, a caption of Deirdre appeared with text stating the next episode would be shown on Christmas Day, a Sunday, at 7.15. This didn't appear to be generated live by Granada, so I wonder we see any evidence of that caption when the episode is repeated. Of course, Granada possibly produced different edits/prints for overseas sales and repeat runs may use these. Interestingly, the recent 7.30 episodes without proper closing credits aren't re-edited for overseas markets - repeats of 2004 episodes I saw on 7TWO in Australia had a 2002 "hearts" style credit sequence edited onto the episodes without proper credits, obviously added by Seven themselves.

Presumably edited on featuring cast members who didn't even appear in the episode?

You'd think the best thing would be to edit on the credits from the same day's 8:30 episode.

That actually reminds me once a few years ago, one of the catchup episodes on the ITV Player on Virgin Media had after the episode textless versions of the titles, credits, break captions and opening scene, obviously there for broadcasters in other countries to add their own captions.

I think someone said a couple of years back something similar appeared with an episode of Masterchef on the BBC iPlayer.

I've previously shared this but here it is again - they only showed the last part of the credits so none of the cast featured. This was a 2005 episode but uses a 2002 set of credits - I think 7TWO started their run in 2009 with episodes from 2002, so presumably used the same sequence to close all episodes without an end-credits sequence.

It's worth bearing in mind that these older episodes were shown around 10am, and possibly considered a mid-morning filler. They have since been discontinued.

Current episodes - running a few weeks behind the UK - are shown twice a day, morning and evening, on UK-TV, a pay-tv channel. These may be given more attention when it comes to editing and presentation, perhaps using a current closing sequence or a custom-made one where applicable. UK-TV may even receive episodes already edited into a 30-minute format.

That particular style of credits was very short lived, only lasting from January 2002 to the ITV revamp that autumn. They're also wrong too, with many of those names not being on the show by 2005! Kieran Roberts had quit as producer in 2004 for a start!

There were two revisions at least of those smokey hearts credits on ITV. That's the later version which had the endcap on the left hand side and were as you say introduced in January 2002. The original revision of those credits had full-screen endcaps after the credits and were first seen in 2001, or at least somewhere between November 2000 and March 2001 IIRC.

Some programmes (mostly daytime I think) had some ugly condensed fonts for their credits during 2001 and I think most of them changed it to a more readable font after 2002. Apart from that there was no other main difference between the two revisions except possibly a different start point for the smoke sequence.

Ahh, those break captions that are clearly a piece of card in front of the camera. Looks very dated for 1986!

And Richard Hillman as Jenny's social worker!

Original endcap left in too, unlike the Granada Plus showings.

Edit: Frontcap too (I missed the first few minutes of the first episode).

The break and end credit captions on the ITV3 repeats date back to the early/mid 1970s. The "end of part one" caption used on both todays episodes was definitely used on the first episode Granada Plus repeated (April 1976) and many others. Also these opening credits had been running for almost 10 years at this point in 1986 and stayed with the show until late 1990! The only bit that was slightly changed was the last bit after the 1982 changes to the set.

Great to see the Granada front and endcaps and the credits in full with no talking over them. Really enjoyed the episodes, watched back to back and took just under 50 mins (including fast forwarding the adverts) so I don't think there were any edits at all with both episodes around 24 mins.

This leaves me somewhat confident we may see the “Deirdre” caption from the Dec 88 episode, and the longer credits sequence following the Rovers fire episode.

I wonder why Granada Plus removed the frontcaps, as well as editing some episodes.

Granada Plus edited them for timing reasons. The amount of adverts on Granada Plus was far more than when they were originally broadcast. Good to see ITV3 put each episode in a 35 minute slot. Granada Plus did their own endcaps for most shows in the early days. Either 'A Granada Production on Granada Sky Broadcasting' or 'a LWT production on Granada Sky Broadcasting'. Initially it was only Granada and LWT shows they screened, then they started showing some YTV shows and then much later on other shows were aired, some not even from ITV.

Id imagine the longer closing credits for the rovers fire will be aired. There were special opening titles for this episode which should be aired in early November on ITV3.

Also worth noting that Sally Seddon (later Webster and Metcalfe) makes her first ever appearance in tomorrows second episode.

Something I noticed with the two episodes today we only saw the outside set once (when Mike went to number 1 to find Susan). When Rita opened the door to Alan that was clearly done in the studio as he actually went inside the house. It goes to show how rare the outside set was used as late as the late 1980s.

When ITV showed an episode of Rik Mayall Presents after he died it was evidently a Granada Plus copy as it had a GSB endcap.
