I'd hardly say "failed" considering how long various channels have run them for. The Granada Plus run of Corrie only stopped because the channel closed, same with UK Gold's run of EastEnders- only ended when that morphed into a comedy channel.

Neighbours ran on (UK) Gold even when it morphed into a comedy channel - it was only for a few months at 6am whilst it got to the end of the run. I believe they ended up showing every episode that had been on the BBC and stopped at the started of the C5 era. In fact I don't think it was that long after they had been on the BBC - maybe a year maximum?

UK Gold caught up with the BBC airings quite quick when they started showing two episodes back to back. They started from the beginning when UK Gold launched in 1992.

Didn't UK Gold repeat Eastenders a few times from the beginning?

There had a special programme to highlight the fact it was getting another repeat in August 96.

In fact "Ken and Mike have a fist fight in the rovers" actually sounds more like an episode from around 1991, I seem to remember seeing that one on Granada Plus.

Edit: this is the episode that seems to match that one: http://coronationstreet.wikia.com/wiki/Episode_3062_(27th_April_1990)

Could it be this one?

There's an article on the Radio Times site now: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-09-20/classic-coronation-street-episodes-to-be-shown-on-itv3/

Quote:
Beginning on Monday 2 October, the broadcaster will be screening two episodes per day of vintage Corrie dating from 1986, starting with the first appearance of infamous Street villain Alan Bradley (Mark Eden).

Interesting if that is where it starts, and it's a linear run. If that is where it starts then that's just under 5 months before I was born, and I'll be able to see the episode from the day I was born only a few weeks later! Granada Plus was up to Summer 1988 when I first started watching, so that's around 2 1/2 years I didn't see before (and hopefully they'll get past the February 1994 point G+ got up to!).

Will give me a LOT of stuff I need to catch up on though, especially when I've been on holiday, already having Emmerdale, Eastenders, Corrie, the Drama run of The Bill and the BBC4 run of Top Of The Pops on Series link. I'm going away from nearly 2 weeks in late November/early December, god knows how long it will take me to catch up if I'm throwing 2 daily episodes of 80s Corrie into that mix! In fact i'll be away the week the Corrie run begins too- so I'll be 10 episodes behind from the off!

Surely the repeats can't do any worse in the ratings than their endless showings of Heartbeat, Columbo and Murder, She Wrote everyone's already seen a hundred times?

Just spotted a Coronation Street themed sting on ITV, it was the ITV logo overlayed outside Audrey's salon.

EDIT: And a second at the Rovers doors; could we see a new ident tonight?

EDIT 2: There was also an IPP just now in a style I've not seen before. No ITV logo, just the Coronation Street logo accompanied by "Tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm" text.

EDIT 3: A third sting before Corrie, but no ident.

Yes, these bumpers have been used throughout the day, all different from what I saw during This Morning. As said, shots of Audrey's, the cobbles, No.8 and many more.

You can tell that Kevin Lygo loves Corrie, first the promo, then the extra episode, then the presentation.

People won't watch episodes every single day just on the off chance that one of the classic episodes or rememberable plot events just happens to occur, hence why soap reruns have all failed and ceased. You'd tune in once for the novelty of seeing the characters but then realise you've just seen 30 mins half way through some minor plots that nobody can remember.

YET Take the high road is still going strong on STV2, yet when there moved the broadcast around to try and sync the content up there were alot of storm of protest.

Hardly strong when they tried to drop it and ultimately offered a weekend omnibus as a compromise.

I do think selected episodes makes much more sense - used to enjoy it when C5 aired Home and Away classics over the summer and the ming them kind of directed viewers to them.
