Channel Five's Aviva Premiership rugby highlights programme is using the BT Sport graphics for everything. This is in contrast to ITV, who used their own graphics Also interesting to note, on the topic of rugby union, no Nick Mullins this weekend for BT Sport, so Martin Gillingham had a rare BT Sport stint on Saturday at the Rec. He was, of course, the ITV commentator when Japan beat South Africa 34-32 at the 2015 Rugby World cup in Brighton!
On channel 5 last night, despite the Newcastle Falcons game being covered live by BT Sport on Friday, they used only a 2 minute report, but had Simon Ward doing commentary on the Harlequins v Gloucester match, which BT Sport didn't cover live at the weekend.
Incidentally I notice that the second sports studio in Salford now has a new desk which matches the one in the Sports News studio as well as a sofa. In fact I almost thought MOTD2 Extra was using the Sports News set at first.
Nice to get a bit of consistency with that.
I assume those studios need limited staffing unlike the main MOTD studio which I think would be available on Sunday lunchtime (being between MOTD and MOTD2)? Or are the acoustics of the smaller space better for the 5 Live simulcast than a TV production studio? I know TV shows on the radio can sound a little odd.

They have done MOTD2 Extra from the big studio before, but as well as any issues with cost, the MOTD set doesn't seem to be the best place to do a debate from because they've all been rather awkwardly sat around the big table, and also they need a desk for all the papers and so on. I like the set they use now, anyway, it looks pretty nice on screen. Reminds of a Saturday morning show set, actually.

The main MOTD studio is only paid for by the BBC when it is needed, it isn't bought out in the way that their large studio at TV Centre was, and so additional use can incur significant additional costs. (And it runs at a higher staffing level I believe, so you also may have additional staffing costs)
The smaller studios used by shows like MOTD2 in Salford are more easily used as they only incur an additional staff cost, not a studio hire charge, as they are either BBC-owned or BBC-bought out.
Yes I understand that the studio is hired as required, but with Football Focus/Final Score/MOTD in there on Saturday night and MOTD 2 on Sunday night it would already be booked, paid for and have the set rigged if they wanted to use it on Sunday lunchtime too?

I guess it makes sense to have extended highlights of one game not covered live. BT Sport graphics but do they use the commentary too?
Presenter wise it's basically as it was on ITV4. Will be interesting to see actually if C5 outrates ITV4.
Yes they use the BT Commentary. However, when on ITV the captions with the commentators names also said they were from BT Sport. That's not the case on C5, where they just have the name(s) of the commentator(s). Personally, it would be good if the show was studio based, as opposed to being at a ground hosting a Saturday match.
Geoff Boycott, one of cricket's best-known pundits, is expected to be part of BT Sport's team for the Ashes this winter.
Boycott is in negotiations to join a group of analysts that will include Michael Vaughan, Graeme Swann, Ricky Ponting and Damien Fleming.
All-round sports broadcaster Matt Smith will present the coverage, replacing Greg James, the original choice, who is no longer available after preferring to sign a BBC deal to present a new entertainment show.

Most probably because the Sale vs Newcastle game was dire (or at least harder to sell when Round 1 was so try happy). Makes sense to have alternative matches for moments like this.
I thought it was a good game, but then I'm referring to the result, as I'm a Newcastle Falcons supporter. However, it does remind me of when HTV and S4C had the welsh club rugby rights. I read this somewhere years ago, that although HTV would normally show highlights of the S4C match as the main event, they could, if wanted, send out their own OB unit, to cover a different match, to show as the main event. Seems like its what C5 has done, decided to have a commentator elsewhere to cover a non live match as a main event.

I'm really surprised by Greg James not choosing to host the Ashes instead host a BBC show unless he leaped before he was pushed, he is a massive Cricket fan and has hosted Cricket shows on 5 Live, played a starring role in the TMS 60 match and with BT Sport not gaining any of the ECB rights it could be his only chance to present a live Ashes test series. However I am glad it's gone to Matt Smith who is an excellent underrated broadcaster who should have never been let go by ITV and in my opinion probably should have been ITV number 1 football presenter instead of Adrian Chiles and of course he has hosted IPL Cricket before on ITV4 so isn't a complete novice in cricket either.
