As I say prespective here. Sky will be showing approximately 100 NFL games live this season. The BBC will be showing three.

Sky lose UK primary rights to IPL. Star India gain global broadcast and online rights for five years for almost £2Billion. Secondary deals a plenty will be in the works now. Significant development in global sports marketing.

Has nobody realised that Star India is another cog in the same machine that also has Sky as a cog in it??? I fully expect that Sky will keep showing the IPL.

Is the YouTube one a first? I know sporting events have been covered on it before (e.g. BT's coverage of the Champions League final) but I've never heard of YouTube either purchasing sports rights on it's own bat or running a pay per view of any kind.

New BBC MOTD commentator alert. Arlo White is scheduled to do Swansea V Newcastle this Sunday.

For those wondering, Arlo White is the main Premier League commentator for NBC. I can't remember if he did any previous for UK TV although he might have done some off-tube commentaries for ITV at the 2014 World Cup if I'm correct in saying that.

Yes he only did a few off tube matches which clashed with another match on ITV4 during the last World Cup, previously he worked for BBC Radio 5 Live commentating on Football and NFL also doing a few away Test Matches and ODIs for Test Match Special in the mid 2000s before going to the MLS then NBC.

It's definitely the first PPV Boxing on YouTube, apparently it's through the Boxing Channel's YouTube page via Hennessey Sports therefore I don't think YouTube actually bought the rights.

The Bike Channel is set to close after its UK owner was put into administration - attempts to find a buyer were unsuccessful.

The wider international parent company put the UK subsidiary up for sale to gain some extra cashflow and continue running the channel, but that has been fruitless.

Didn't have the budget, nor the live programming, nor the viewers. It was always inevitable that it was going to close down at some point, I imagine channels like Front Runner will experience the same problems soon.

There's also a team, currently taking part in the Tour of Britain, who have Bike channel as one of their sponsors. I don't think it's the primary sponsor of the team however. So this move has implications for them as well.

The team will continue despite Bike ceasing to exist: http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/british-racing/bike-channel-canyon-will-continue-race-2018-despite-tv-channels-expected-closure-350159

Hopefully FreeSports or Frontrunner can step in and buy any rights they hold.

That's great to hear. It's always sad when a cycling team loses a sponsor. I still remember when the Le Groupment team went bust, 1994, mid season, after their sponsor collapsed.
