They actually can't bring back the idents, because only two of them have the correct name. Sky One and Sky News.

With the exception of Sky News, I don't think they did anything to mark their 25th anniversary (which is generally seen as a more significant milestone than 30), so can't see them doing anything special for this (or even mention it outside of Sky News).

Sky one wasn't 25 in 2014 it would have 30.

According to Wikipedia, Sky News launched on 5th February 1989.

They also released a book entitled "Sky News: 20 Years of Breaking News" in 2009.

ok, but Sky 1 is the same age as Sky News anyway.

Sky One was launched in July 1989. Before that, it was called "Sky Channel" from 1984, and before that it was called "Satellite Television Ltd" from 1982.

Depends on your view.

Would you say the BBC News Channel should celebrate 20 years in November this year, or ignore it since it is no longer called BBC News 24?

BBC News is a bit different, because "BBC News" has been part of the name since the channel launched.

Sky One has only existed since 1989. Before that, the channel had a different name.

BBC Three launched in 2003, but the channel launched in 1998 as BBC Choice, but you wouldn't say that BBC Three is going to be 20 next year just because the channel was launched in 1998 under a different name.

The big difference between the two is that pre-1989 Sky Channel was a pan-European operation, while Sky One was aimed solely at the UK and Ireland.

Indeed, while Sky now paints 5th February 1989 as its Day One, as someone who had the cable Sky Channel on 3rd February 1989, it was portrayed as a rebrand or relaunch at the time. Promos were carried for "The New Sky Channel". And yes, DJ Kat and Fun Factory were carried over from the pan-European incarnation.

However, the channel did not air any programmes on Saturday 4th February 1989 - just a menu. Likewise on Sunday 5th February until the launch at 6:00pm.

The name continued to be Sky Channel immediately after the relaunch - it didn't change to Sky One until a few months later. Nonetheless, in February 1999, Sky One celebrated its tenth anniversary with an ident using the jingle from the 1989-93 idents and containing a montage of some of the idents used up until then.
