More brilliance from Simon McCoy today.

Yep, giving it all the enthusiasm of a dried thistle head, and I have some sympathy with him on that count.
"And on that note, let's play Oddball!"

So Saturday Night Live here in the US is starting a "Weekend Update: Summer Edition" and they are airing a promo that features a moving control room shot of BBC's Studio A. It's on screen for a second or two but you can see the ending of the countdown (inside the piazza), the chroma camera previews, and that the virtual set is setup for News Watch.
I'm not sure if this promo is available outside the US. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/the-most-trusted-names-in-fake-news/3560973?snl=1

I would agree with this although it does seem to be quite infamous now.
It's been in use for 18 years now, and the current look has been in use in one form or another for coming up to 10 years next year.
Much like most of the BBC, it's in need of a rebrand. There just isn't the money for it... apparantly.
Love David Lowe - but getting bored of pips news theme and globe. Time for a change/rework?

Well there's TV Forum in a nutshell. It's a long running established iconic brand.... let's change it! People here seem to laud the US networks for having the same logo or news theme for 30 or 40 years, but constantly want change here. They can't win
As you say it's not as if it's been the same for 18 years, it's constantly evolving. So much has been invested in their news branding and its so well known they'd be crazy to change it.

But we've had exactly the same visual look now for BBC News for over 9 years now. The 9 years before that saw 3 or 4 different variations on the look.
It's tired, it needs a refresh, and not merely a change of font, though that will help a little.

It hasn't, apart from all the minor changes I've that time they moved to a new building with totally new studios about 5 years ago. If that wasn't a change of 'visual look' I don't know what is
