The version Challenge has shows that Mr Chips' arm doesn't move at all, even when the whole animation is revealed. Also worth pointing out that the shot of Roy telling the contestants to "concentrate" is on the screen rather than on him.

I was going to say the colours look entirely different in the background of the animation in the two videos above but that may simply be because the bottom Challenge video appears to have been recorded digitally (Tivo/Sky+/HDD recorder or whatever) and the original looks typical of VHS smudging the colours giving everything a brighter/slightly dreamy effect at certain points in the colour spectrum.

I already mentioned this earlier in the thread- that recording comes from the Alright On The Night Cockup Trip from 1996- they showed the full round, not just the naughty bonus bits. I had that Alright On The Night episode on video at one point, I've seen it multiple times!
There's a clip of the episode uploaded in 2007 showing the full round, so doesn't appear to be from a clip show but looks like an actual TV recording.

That explains why the audience laughter seems more muted on the actual recording - the clip we're all used to seeing includes the Alright On The Night audience too.
Another notable difference between the two clips is that there's background music at the end of the round as the squares reveal the full catchphrase.
Now, either it has been edited to make it more family friendly and they've added a bit of music in the process OR the actual episode was never as rude as it seemed, and some naughty people at the production company upped the ante to make it even more obvious for clip shows (Xmas tape style). And when they did this, they didn't dub the music on at the reveal.

Possibly the music was only added in post-production anyway?
But I do think the Alright On The Night clip is partly why people think the episode went out that way- as it shows the full round it can give the impression is comes from the episode itself.
