He also sees ITV2 as just some sort of ITV overspill, which it hasn't been for about 15 years, its a channel with its own target audience
That's before you mention that for young skewing digital channels 10pm is the biggest time slot.
Why would ITV move the News at Ten to its second channel? ITV has a PSB obligation to show news at different times during the day, unlike all of the ITV DCL channels. If anything, the Nightly Show would move to ITV2.

I was at 200 GIR in April 1997, and ITV were holding a press launch in the atrium regarding their general election coverage. I do recall a Gruaniad reporter back then asking what C4 were planning, and the assembled panel advised she'd have to ask C4 that question. She came back with a reply that clearly indicated she didn't understand at all the relationships between ITN, ITV and C4. Twas ever thus
