UTV are doing the usual election debate with Marc Mallet. It's this Thurday at 9pm. I am sure they will go down the line similar to the recent ITV Wales route with their assembly elections.

I'm not sure about this but not long ago I read that it took a few years for "Movie Mix" on Freeview to switch its name to "Sony Movie Channel" after being bought by Sony. Apparently on freeview if you change your name then your put down the LCN. The change has to take place gradually over a few years. I could be wrong but do you think this is what ITV are doing with UTV?

Not sure that's the case as Sony Movie Channel didn't change LCN.
It wouldn't apply to UTV/ITV anyway, if it was the case, because it has PSB status.

The rules governing what happens when a service changes on Freeview are now being relaxed. Had MovieMix changed overnight back in 2013 in terms of both ownership and content, it would have lost its LCN as it would have been deemed a new channel from a new provider. It's also why Sky could not replace Channel One with Challenge on LCN20.

As you say, different rules apply to the PSBs linked to their relevant broadcast licences. Whoever holds the Channel 3 licence for Northern Ireland gets to broadcast on channel 3, whatever they are called.

Huh? But Challenge and Channel One are both ex-Living TV Group channels. So it wouldn't technically be a new provider.

Yes - they were owned by the Living TV Group, but that was assimilated into the wider Sky operation at the time. Even though Challenge was bound to be replacing Channel One, it carried within itself a change in owner (Channel One was run by Living TV Group, after the 2011 change Challenge was run by Sky) and entirely different content too. Hence why it ended up on LCN 46, rather than LCN 20, which has since turned into UKTV turf.

Looks like upcoming election programming from UTV will be branded similar to ITV's look for the General Election in 2015.

ITV's 'Florist' ident has made it across to UTV for St Valentine's Day - but has the new ITV 'Balloon Hearts' ident been shown on UTV today?

A longer playout of the Irish rugby ident was shown over the weekend; and on Monday evening, the Pigeons ident made an appearance in the evening - but with a very different soundtrack to ITV's original. I'm not sure it has been used before, but with over 200 idents in play now, it probably has been!

And today at 2pm, we had one of the Christmas idents to introduce Judge Rinder.

I have no idea how these idents are scheduled but watching over the last week or so, it's generally the same ten or so idents again and again (with the pre-Christmas ones mixed in every now and again). But during the last week I've seen some summer idents make a couple of random appearances and they've not been seen since.

Also, on Saturday, no sign of the Irish fans rugby ident on UTV - yet it was shown on network. Bizarre.
