Not sure tagging an extra line into a voice session script is going to much trouble to be fair
It might not be, but out of all 'personalities' on the ITV network, why John Stapleton? He's as distant from ITV National News as John Mackay at STV, or Julian Simmons at UTV, is.
He presented London Tonight during the ITN era, and didn't he also stand in for Alistair on the ITV NC occasionally?
Ranvir doing Sunday evening news, so guessing she will still be covering even with new role at GMB
I suppose the idea of "Good Morning Britain's Political Editor Ranvir Singh" doing the Sunday news sounds better than "relief presenter Ranvir Singh".
I seem to call that when John Stapleton moved from presenter to special correspondent, an insider said that ITV News had gone to the trouble of recording him a voiceover announcement.
Might seem like nothing, but then also, why would they record a GMTV/Daybreak personality an ITV News announcement? It must've went through

's head at ITN, "John Stapleton could fill in one day..."
I don't know exactly which era you are talking about but I think you may have been misinformed. There's certainly never been an ITV News VO for John Stapleton recorded in either the 2009-13 or 2013-present sets. I can't be certain about the pre-2004 VOs but I can categorically state that none have been recorded for him since 2009.
Incidentally, Steve is right about it not being a big issue. James Faulkner had to come into ITN to do various sessions periodically and it was as simple as adding another name to a script for him. Since 2013 when Gayanne Potter took over it's been much more straightforward because Gayanne has a home recording studio. She simply records them and sends them to ITN electronically. That's why in recent times there have been many, many more natural sounding location voiceovers created. She is able to record them at very short notice - unlike James Faulker who had to be booked to come in. That's why they never really did many location VOs between 2009 and 2013. The ITN sound mixers had a go at editing some but the quality of them was pretty ropey to be honest.

Do you know if Bill Neely had a ITV News VO in 2009, as I can't remember seeing him present, but I read on here he has presented before.

On that note, James Mates did a VO back in 1995 (10 minutes and 14 seconds into the following video):

Why is the ITV News London desk (which is also used for the lunchtime and Saturday early evening national bulletins) at ITN lower than the one in the ITV national news studio? Having a lower desk lowers the tone of the London regional news and the national news at lunchtime and on the Saturday early evening.

Probably because it makes it slightly less formal. After all, regional news is usually quite informal and the Lunchtime News is the least formal/important of the day's bulletins. The Evening News and News at Ten being presented from the small desk would seem inappropriate, but in my opinion they can get away with it at lunchtime.
Yes, because the tone of a bulletin is proven to directly correlate with the height of the desk. That's why Newsnight and C4 News have desks so high that you can't see the presenters.

Most regional news on both channels is not presented from behind a full height desk these days, it's seen as far too formal for a news magazine.

I'm referring to desk-height in the context of news on ITV because of the fact that Kylie Pentelow was wearing a very short skirt when she was presenting a national bulletin with the lower desk (having presumably presented the London regional bulletin before it) and that it may have distracted viewers from the news itself.

I doubt viewers are as fickle as you make them out to be.
