I've only just noticed that France Télévisions have finally caught up with the BBC iPlayer by offering live streams of all the France 3 regions in 720p HD on France TV Pluzz.

Also returning to Zattoo Switzerland, they have Franceinfo in 480p SD. It appears the HD version is only available behind a paywall to satellite customers, while Fransat and TNT make do with SD.

France Télévisions have been broadcasting their 30th Telethon on France 2 and 3 this weekend.

Unlike CiN, the majority of the content has been about fundraising and the people who have received help through the charity.

Like last year, they've broadcasted from two domes in Paris. A smaller dome used during off-peak hours and a larger dome with audience seating for the peak hours on Friday and Saturday night.

Instead of regional opts, they do segments similar to the CiN regional ones which are much longer using FR2/FR3 presenters across the country. France 3 presenters also did the FR3 only segments of the Telethon this afternoon from the smaller dome.

Many Arte viewers, and many fans of geography and geopolitics, are mourning over the loss of Jean-Christophe Victor, who created and anchored a 10-minute programme called "Le dessous des cartes" since 1990.

http://images.programme.tv/2016/12/jean-christophe-victor-le-createur-du-dessous-des-cartes-sur-arte-est-mort-e1a3a93294e7803c0-612x340.jpeg

In "Le dessous des cartes" (known as "Mit offenen Karten" in German), JC Victor explained economics, geopolitics, societal topics, etc. using maps and statistics, in a manner that was very instructive and easy to understand.

JC Victor is also one of the co-founders of the NGO "Action against hunger" and one of the co-founders of a think tank focused on analysis through cartography. He was otherwise a quite discreet person, and anyway a respected teacher. He died at age 69.

An issue with France 2's weather forecast this evening. The bulletin just before 20H CET was recorded in SD with sub-standard audio without the channel DOG. As the ad sting went out, the news started mid sting. The bulletin after the news was also in SD,

Possibly encoded with the wrong resolution?

(Lenodal got rip-offed again ?)

The marmottes were so popular in summer idents that winter idents were made featuring them, too, and it seems like more and more viewers are enjoying their presence, as I could read some viewers comments on one France 3 sub-page on Facebook.

France Télévisions seems to have a few problems handling HD and SD recently. Three days ago, the Poitou-Charentes regional output of the evening news on France 3 was aired in HD as usual, but strangely the DOG switched to SD. It occured only during the whole regional output. Probably an error from the regional station this time.

France 3 is regional isn't it, though I guess these are used across the network. Is France 3 the only regional network or does TF1 or another station have regional news at least? I know there are local channels in Paris but they're independent (I think) rather than part of a network.
