I wonder how much of that Daily Mail story is entirely made up?
Both the alleged tensions at ITV and the alleged job offer at Sky. It seems to be based on someone's imagination, not even an "insider"
Maybe they've been reading this thread and know that some of those who post on TV Forum work in the industry, therefore consider all posters to be 'insiders'. The previously linked DM article/column piece by Sebastian Shakespeare, and today's piece by Ephraim Hardcastle appear to consist of a few basic facts, a lot of speculation, and a bit of ratings comparison thrown in for good measure.

In my view, Mark along with Huw Edwards is the foremost news anchor on any network and his experience and talent is second to none, this is very sad for ITV News for me they have lost their greatest asset. Regardless, of what you think of the significance of the Evening News role to the NAT role or what you think denotes seniority on a news network, there is no getting away from the fact ITV effectively sidelined Mark and Julie from a programme they had received noteable awards and commendation for. Whilst I think NAT is in some ways a better product now than it was then , never have I found myself thinking Tom is a better anchor than he is or commands the level of authority he has. Ultimately the ratings haven't dramatically got better really and I do wonder if it was really worth it when now they have lost who really should have been their anchorman, this in no way intended as a criticism of Tom, who I think has greatly improved since coming into role but for me News at Ten is perceived as the golden chalice of ITV News and their most talented newscaster was sidelined from it,
Going forward it will be interesting to see if ITV reshuffle things with this vacancy and the up coming changes regarding News at Ten. One name that hasn't been mentioned for the ITV Evening News yet who I would certainty consider is Geriant Vincent. He has followed a similar path to Mark and has accumulated good experience and reputation as a foreign correspondent, meaning he could fill the void left behind by bringing this specialism to the newscasting team. I'm aware he has his critics on here but I think with his past presenting experience and with time he could really establish himself into the role and is a lot better than Rageah in my view at news presenting. Though, I think he may be more suited to Nina or Julie as a presenting partner. Matt Barbet would be another strong candidate, for me it was a big mistake for ITV News not to get him into a role for effective succession planning a couple of years ago when daybreak ended. Either Matt or Geriant could in my view hold down a anchor role for a number of years.
I think whatever direction they go in Mary and Nina are the two strongest remaining presenters and should be in key roles , in the case of the latter I think more prominence is due. James Mates or Steve Scott would both probably be good partners for Mary.
Well why not! They are both fantastic news anchors and as I say Nina in my view should have more prominence in the national bulletins than she has now, she has very under used in this respect. It would certainly be a viable option.
Yes, newsreading isn't the be-all and end-all, even in the world of TV news. People can and do decide to go from on-screen to behind the scenes... or even out of the industry altogether

He hasn't mentioned leaving TV completely though has he?
