It was on the infamous "Friendly TV" apparently, not Freeview. Also going by a comment on that YouTube video that question had been open for some considerable time before being solved.

What a wonderful time to be alive it was.

I'd like to know how they got to that solution! They never told the viewer how they got that figure once it had been 'solved'

Yeah, Sky channel 907 until six years ago, when the EPG slot was sold to a porn channel. Apparently their EPG listings were falsified and they accidentally broadcast a libelous comment once.

That was when someone accidentally turned the microphones up, instead of down, when going into a commercial-break-but-not-really. It really is fascinating to watch. The definition of car crash TV

Not one of the quiz channels or strands showed any of their "solutions" to any of their "problems" that ran those sort of things, most of which had four digit answers for reasons that nobody else seemed to get.

However in a Broadcast Bulletin about one of these Ofcom were apparently provided with the methodology and solution to a problem and while they (sadly) didn't share it, they seemed happy with it, which suggests to me it was above board, though perhaps in hindsight dubiously "worded" shall we say.

The only reason people actually got the solution seemed to be after a while they started saying whether a given answer was too high or low, so in the end it became a narrow field of possiblities and a process of elimination.

To paraphrase what Victor Lewis-Smith said about the incident, if anyone were watching, this could have been problematic.

I've never encountered Mike Neville before, but he has that mix of professionalism and casual warmth that's really lacking in most talent nowadays.
