Some of the ones lost in 2002 were allowed a sign off - most famously LWT's - but it was very publically known at that stage that all local continuity in England was going.

However in this case, the Bel Tel has flagged that intention seems to be, at least in the short term, that Julian and Gillian will stay as announcers, but won't appear in vision. I suspect the intention may be that they'll quietly retire over the coming years and when that happens continuity will move to London.

It is possible that pre-recorded IVC could stay, even if it's just for Coronation Street on a Friday night as that where people would notice the difference. It would be strange to hear Julian doing a "straight" OOV amp for Corrie!

Possible. Also feasible that they could re-introduce occasional pre-recorded IVC links in the event of people complaining when they disappear.

Then again, Julian in his IVC talks about what's about to happen in the upcoming episode, if it's a pre-record he will just be introducing the show without details, and viewers will surely notice the same footage being used over and over?

Has it been confirmed anywhere yet that the UTV News will go HD now with this new look? It would be a shame to build a new set to bring it in line with the ITV look but it still be ropey SD.

Can't believe this will be the last weekend of those lens flares everywhere on UTV's branding!

What justification is there for UTV news to be in HD when it isn't in Scotland, or indeed many English ITV regions?

What are you on about STV News in Glasgow is HD, Its only the Edinburgh and Aberdeen which aren't

From what I saw the other day of "Scotland Tonight", if that's HD it's a very, very poor version of it.

In any case, even if STV Glasgow is HD, that still leaves three of the four Scottish regions without HD. So I ask again, where is the justification for UTV to go HD when many other areas are not?

They're building a new set at this moment, so now would be the perfect time to upgrade the cameras and playout systems too would it not?

STV News isn't filmed in HD. Dunno why, but it's upscaled instead.

I'm sure it will be noticed, even by those who are not pres geeks, that IVC, and more importantly, Julian's camp intros has gone. I wouldn't be surprised if complaints are made, not that it'll make a difference.

So does ITV in London get UTV and STV's links as well?

Yeah, I remember Yorkshire having a proper sign off too. And HTV even altered their ident for theirs.
