I never said "high level management" from London were dictating what was to be done, I said that UTV is now ITV, so as everybody that works there is now an ITV employee, I don't think it can be blamed on the previous management of UTV.

Unless I've missed something, there hasn't been a change of management at UTV has there? Not yet anyway.

Virtually all ads and presentation elements are filmed in HD. However, that doesn't mean that they will be played out in HD... Depending on the channel. And even if they are made and played in HD, that doesn't mean that there won't be noticeable differences in picture quality depending on which playout centre is transmitting them. It's quite likely that UTV playout and ITV playout are using different codecs on their files.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. I remember seeing something earlier this year about ITV now taking ads in HD, but wasn't sure how many were actually filmed in HD.

I think there is very little production in SD these days. Actual broadcast is different matter. But even most smartphones can shoot 720p at least.

No, but the staff are employed by ITV.

I was responding to Pad_ehh who was saying that he was glad to see "the back of UTV, for the real professionals to come in". Whether or not the management has changed at UTV, ITV from London will be involved in the set up of the revamped news service. Admittedly, they probably are not that interested in the temporary studio in the meantime, but surely you don't expect them to spend a fortune on a temporary news studio for 1 week? ITV hold the purse strings now, so they most certainly are in control.

Did the ITV news regions not go through a similar process in 2013 before the rebrand?

After the 2013 rebrand, the new set was phased in gradually around the different regions at different times. Some have only changed to the new set quite recently.

Before then, with the 2004 rebrand, most regions initially retained their current sets (with minor modifications), and the new sets were phased in gradually. In some regions, this changed occurred when they moved premises. Given that ITV are looking to relocate UTV to new premises, I'm surprised that they aren't keeping the old set until the relocation happens.

Yes and there was no commonality in what each region knocked up, some looked more elaborate than others. It will be an entirely local decision.

I'm sure there were various examples of regions getting new corporate sets and moving not long afterwards.

Have all the ITV regions now got the set - think maybe West and Anglia were last in line to get them.

Fair enough. I thought all, or most, of the ITV News regions tweeted spoilers of the new sets in 2013. Was it just a lick of paint at that time?

I wonder how much longer UTV will retain an MD. Most ITV regions just tend to have a Head of news now.

I think it was a bit of relighting. Certainly Granada were out of their studio for a day or two for the changes even though they moved to Salford Quays (and a brand new studio) not long after. A number of regions had new sets on a phased basis over the following years but I think all had tweaks when then 2013 logo debuted.

There was more hoohah over the 2013 regional news refresh than was deserved. Behind the scenes photos showed the sets appearing to be taken down and put back together, but looked exactly the same apart from a bit of relighting and wood effect lino on the floor.

Thanks. I am pleasantly surprised that ITV allow the regions some freedom on their news sets. I genuinely thought they were all uniform.

I've noticed a few rather nasty hard switches this evening just after programmes start. There's clearly some switching between Belfast and London going on and the syncing between the play out centres is not great. Quite a lot of timing errors as well. Hopefully that won't continue next week.
