Indeed, as I mentioned the CSO studio has always been used for the late bulletin when UTV Live Tonight is not airing, and was also always used in the post-UTV Live Tonight days.
I'd imagine if it was a technical issue with the CSO studio which forced the use of the main studio, it would have been a single-camera operation. But it was the opposite - it had the the full range of wide shots, camera pans etc. It was a 'full bulletin'. Full opening titles with headline sequence, main presenter, and full closing titles.
Great to see, obviously. Hopefully its a permanent arrangement under the new regime.
Isn't the CSO studio normally used for the late bulletin the continuity studio? Could there be a technical issue preventing in vision continuity and forcing the late news into the main studio?

Oh dear. Horribly oversized U beside the small TV just looks odd and silly.
Hasn't every UTV logo (i.e. since 1993) had the first letter rather larger the the latter two?
Ever since it was first unveiled in the spring, the new U(tv) logo makes total sense IMHO as a stepping stone toward the inevitable eventual full rebrand as ITV.
It retains the larger first letter of the current/previous logo (rounding its corners being the only discernible difference), and the latter two letters being smaller and encapsulated within a shape (albeit now a circle rather than a rectangle). Conversely, it now literally has parts of the existing "itv" logo in it, and the inclusion of a circular dot clearly allows for break bumpers & trailer end boards etc to utilise a version of the same circular wipes that ITV already uses. Even the placement of the dot (i.e. not vertically centred) is a step towards how high the dot is placed in the "itv" logo - i.e. inherently above the the stem of the "i".
If anything, it's actually a far better "stepping stone" than the hearts/dual-branding ever was IMHO. (But given the myriad of different legacy regional names and logos going in to that era, what we got back then was the best sort of approach that was realistically possible under the circumstances).
At least the existing regional name in NI nowadays is already only one-vowel-different from what it's now heading towards, rather than being as different as "Ulster Television" is from "ITV".

Disagree - think it looks quite good as far as DOGs go, though will look better top left.
Oh dear. Horribly oversized U beside the small TV just looks odd and silly. Just use the ITV DOG on screen but have the idents and CA's refer to it as UTV. The majority of people won't notice and at least it will look better on screen.

Of course, ITV are committed under the terms of their deal with Virgin Media to continue to play out UTV Ireland until TV3 are ready to take that over (or not, as the case may be), so ITV won't be able to close the Belfast playout operation until that happens.

Dual running at the moment.

That bug really isn't bad. There are so many worse designs.

Why couldn't they play it out from Chiswick or Leeds?
