The maps and forecasts have always been kinda fantastically vague and non specific. Doesnt seem to be a huge departure from the previous maps IMO to warrant the giddy-ness. But what ever floats your boat.....

It's one of those situations where if someone introduces something new, particularly when the BBC does it, everything else automatically looks old and out dated by default.

Symbols will probably come round again, just like how stand up news presentation came and went.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe ITV turned down the system that the BBC introduced in 2005 and is in place today because they said it would be too confusing. How times can change!

I do like the new look weather, I've always thought the ITV Weather graphics since Carlton/Granada merge looked a bit miss matched. These new ones fit in better with the news and the front card with the Itv Weather and name check looks great.

The ITV Midlands weatherman is certainly a breath of fresh air isn't he? Quite pleasing.

Only bug for me is the poor quality of the video forecasts online and the delay in time of them being put up!

Wasn't he a BBC East Midlands Today weatherman a couple of years back?

I imagine he must be very 'Marmite' as I cannot abide him. His cheesy 'I'm so cool' persona makes me die a little inside every time he's on. A far cry from Emma Jesson and Charlie Neil.

Yes, it's Des Coleman.

First major casualty at the BBC due to the loss of the Met Office contract confirmed.

Alex Deakin has left the BBC after 16 years. Tweet to confirm.

Just read that he's also an actor, and used be in EastEnders (which I've never watched in my life, and never will). Shocked

He must surely be the first and only human being ever, to be an actor-cum-weatherman?

What about Robin Lermitte ? He was also in Eastenders.

Sounds to me like he's decided to stick with the Met Office and carry on as an online forecaster for them than staying with the BBC - he describes it as "last minute", too. Not sure this counts as a "casualty", necessarily, or that others will follow him.

I stand corrected.

Just had to Google that name. Not a name or face that I was aware of before.
