Totally the wrong decision and an overreaction by ITV, the actor should have been
given a good talking to maybe a suspension and the chance to apologise.
Overreaction due to political correctness perhaps, but I'd imagine ITV along with other broadcasters, have a strict zero tolerance policy over racism along with anything else equally offensive posted online. If one of the white actors on Corrie posted racially offensive comments on social media, they'd be dealt with in much the same way.
I genuinely believe the show has a duty of care to it's talent and shouldn't just throw
them under the bus due to a single outburst like this.
Thing is, it wasn't just a single outburst. It was a series of racially offensive tweets, so he was "thrown under the bus" so to speak. Look at what happened when Chris Fountain got sacked due to an offensive rap video posted online that wasn't racist (IIRC) but glorified sexual violence against women. As I recall, he was suspended first, rather than being sacked as soon as Corrie bosses found out.
It's funny you can drink drive and genuinely put lives in danger and not be punished
by the show but if you post misguided Tweets they string you out to dry.
I agree with this point. Drink driving might not cause offense like racism, sexism, homophobia, etc ... but it can potentially cost lives.

I agree rather than a driving ban I'd like the government to introduce a drinking ban for such offences.
Any Celebrity from India or Pakistan or member of either of their diasporas, making disparaging comments publicly against the other country or citizen thereof in a multicultural third country is asking for trouble, madness to do so, moreso when invective is used which apparently is the case here.

I never understand the need for twitter if your in the public eye, more hastle than it's worth. What you say today might be unacceptable in 10 years. Just stay off it.
If anyone has seen The Sopranos, one of the cast members died after series two and they made new scenes using CGI. It did not look right, but that was over 15 years ago so I'm sure ITV could do much better if they wanted to spend a bit, but doubt they would go that far.
Kevin, Jenny, Nick, Michelle, Anna, Izzy, Faye, Eva, Steph, Sinead have all run there course
Also Aidan, Johnny, Kate all need to go
Maybe they bring back some great characters aswell as Brian and Peter, they need to bring back Roy's mum - think her name was Sylvie or something.
They also need to get new characters in, for comedy purposes, like a Blanche character.
Gail, David, Liz, Steve, Norris, Roy, Eileen, Kirk, Beth, Tim, Michael and Phelan are all great and need to stay, shame Michael is leaving
Wouldn't be the first overnight recast in soap, though other than with kids I doubt Corrie have done that. Would probably be the best solution though - in recent history where soap scenes have been axed last minute in soaps it's often quite telling.

Patricia Cutts was the actress that originally played Blanche. She played the part in two episodes but then committed suicide. The part was then recast with Maggie Jones taking over in the next few episodes. I think that's about the only time it's ever happened.
