And as exemplified by the rubbish "news" output by LDNLive since its launch, local news still isnt and hasnt been produced correctly, so of course people are gonna remain with other outlets.

Well, news isn't really the priority at the Evening Standard either - the paper's really now just a way of reflecting Two Beards' views and interests and helping him grease his way into the good books of influential people. You can't do that with telly.

There's an okay-ish bare bones news service on the ES website these days, and this could be the basis for at least an hourly headlines service on London Live. But why bother when the regulator lets you get away with long, lifeless cheapo live news programmes scheduled out of prime time?

The other day, the Standard's front page and 2-6 were puff for it's latest charity campaign.

There's no denying Two Beards' has saved the newspaper, but it has become a mouthpiece for his agenda.

Sadly that idea was one of the first to go when 'Sticky Vikki' was in charge. I think it makes perfect sense myself.

One trick they're really missing is pulling stories from the Standard website through to use on-air - whether that's on a ticker, a breakfiller-type sequence of hourly headlines, the kind of breakfast information screen I've mentioned in the past, or something else.

From what little I've seen recently, there seems to be next to no integration of the Standard's output into London Live's.

Some time ago (a year? 18 months?) people from the Standard started appearing much less on London Live. There was a suggestion at the time that this was a deliberate move to prepare the channel for potential sale.

I have been watching local US channels, it really highlights how bad LL is. The US channels, report lots of local stuff. If someone dies, they are on the scene, if there is a shooting, they are there, they have regular traffic and weather bulletins, they report on so many things, even arrests. They have massive studios, they also report on main national news. It's very clear LL is too small and without sutible funds to even attempt being a real News channel.

I think they gave up on being a real news channel a long, long time ago. Now it seems to all about filling the required air time with press releases come to life. When they do do something worth watching, nobody knows about it and nobody cares.

From what I understand, the relationship between the two entities is not great.

I can't say I'm surprised - London Live's news output isn't exactly a credit to the Standard's 189-year journalistic heritage.

I am a journalist. A year ago I wrote a story about a very large incident in my area.

A Standard reporter rang me up and asked me how I knew a certain piece of information. I told him I had visited the scene myself, and I had also seen the same thing reported independently on London Live News.

The snort of derision from the Standard reporter said it all.

I think the point is that because of how TV works here with our regional structure already in place AND the fact that we're a comparatively small country, those stories will end up on the "normal" news - there's no need for other local channels in the UK.
