It was only half the episode and micheal told viewers there were joining the game half way in

Indeed, Barrymore introduced it alone on the set, saying it was a very special episode, then after they'd shown the extended banter, Barrymore said he hoped we enjoyed it and we were now going to join the game in progress. Vividly remember it.

Here's more about Lord Bob and the 'shot. As you see, he wasn't told to go on to steal the show, but certainly try and stand out a bit because everyone knew Jackie was a bit crap and the show was dying on its arse, so they were in a market for a new host.

This is a bit like when Rob Brydon was on the second series of WILTY and was absolutely brilliant, getting loads of laughs and working so well with David and Lee. Clearly they wanted to get him on every week, so they got him to replace Angus.

It's fascinating to watch the early episodes with Angus at the helm. It felt very much like Lee and David were two naughty schoolboys and Angus was the stern headmaster biting his tongue. The mood of the show is far better now and I'd go as far as to say it was one of the best panel shows.

Harry Hill's Alien Fun Capsule has now officially been comissioned. With a description of the show.

Quote:
Harry Hill’s Alien Fun Capsule is a panel show that sees Harry Hill presiding over two teams tasked with saving planet earth from alien invasion! Each team must find clips, people, basically anything that is fun or funny enough for Harry to place in a capsule which, in the event that we're invaded by aliens, we can present to them to demonstrate earthlings are good fun and therefore worthy of saving.

Over a series of rounds, the two teams of two present Harry with fun stuff which Harry must adjudicate on and ultimately decide what's in and what's out of the Fun Capsule with the triumphant team winning bragging rights.

Along the way there will be sketches, studio items and special guests. And the occasional appearance of an alien.

I agree for me Have I Got News For You with it's guest hosts has good and bad weeks, Mock the Week also depends on it's guests and was funnier with a larger cast but Would I Lie to You is consistently funny every episode and is the best panel show for me.

Well, I enjoyed it when Angus did it as well, he's a generous host who provides plenty of opportunities for the guests to shine, and he has absolutely impeccable timing and delivery. There were plenty of funny moments in it. I enjoy it even more now, but a lot of that is also down to the show becoming established so the three sparking off each other and all the panellists knowing the format, so it's far more relaxed.

It's like looking at the early episodes of HIGNFY, that like WILTY had loads of rounds in the early days, which over the years they were able to thin down when they became confident that the panellists could generate enough humour between them without having to be consistently prompted and other bits - like the funny TV clips - as a standby in case it wasn't funny enough.

I think WILTY and Taskmaster are the two best panel shows on TV, and it's no coincidence that it involves the panellists having to react to surprises and think on their feet, as opposed to just recycling bits of their act.

Also, that Harry Hill show sounds brilliant. Really looking forward to it.

Dawn French will host the UK version of Little Big Shots, an American show where children show off their talents.

Little Big Shots shines the spotlight on some of the world’s most talented children. With no prizes at stake, no winners or losers and no competition, this programme is simply a showcase for three to thirteen year olds to take to the stage and show that you don’t have to be a grown-up to be a star performer.

Sounds like someone heard the words "Harry Hill" and "clips" and rubber stamped it.

A good choice - ITV taking some risks with presenters lately and it's refreshing to see.

I see ITV are airing Victoria on Sunday and Monday this week, and then from next week it's on Sundays opposite Poldark, with Cold Feet on Mondays.

Anyone else feel they'd be better the other way round - surely the crossover audience for Poldark and Victoria is more likely to be similar than the audience for Cold Feet and Poldark?

Not really, Victoria is so clearly a Sunday night drama, period drama seems totally wrong on any other day. I know it's opposite Poldark but 9pm on Sunday has always been a flagship drama slot and many, many dramas have been on BBC1 and ITV at the same time in that slot. There are enough viewers around for both to happily co-exist.

Used to be that, certainly around the turn of the century, ITV used to show a lot of dramas on Sundays with the next episode on Monday, indeed the fourth series of Cold Feet was shown like that. It brought the audience along, though one obvious reason for that was so both LWT and Carlton could get the benefit from it.

Besides, there's BBC iPlayer and the ITV Hub, DVRs, ITV+1 - it's not like you can't watch both.
