Any forays in to pan-regionalism (for which the CGI gallery "window" is used) are on an ad-hoc occasional basis, unlike during the dark days of 2009-2013.
Speaking of which, tonight was one such occasion!
The first 4-minutes of tonight's programme were entirely pan-regional, with no opening headlines rundown.
The top story was about the arrest "in Somerset" of a Royal Marine, over Northern Ireland-related terrorism. Plus an associated search of a house in Exminster, south Devon. Other than the arrest itself occurring "in Somerset" (no more geographically specific than that), there was no clearer/stronger explanation given to make the story seem anything other than a pure "Westcountry" story, TBH. Although the ITV West Country website describes the marine as a "Somerset serviceman" (whatever than means?).
Ian & Kylie threw to a live OB of Bob Cruwys in Exminster. The item included a statement from a Devon & Cornwall Police officer, introduced by Bob as having been recorded about a hour before.
Alistair Stewart's preview of the Evening News was shown at the exceptionally early time of something like 18:03:30. After the Evening News preview, the programme split at 18:04:00 with the first appearance of the Clifton backdrop for us in "HTV land".
There was a pointless brief "update" (with no new details to add!) from Bob Cruwys in Exmister at about 18:19. The on-screen "Live" bug confirming that the "HTV" edition is live tonight. All a bit of a bizarre construct, IMHO.
