Gamal Fahnbulleh is a very able presenter, in my view. He's hosted during some major breaking stories, e.g. the midnight-6am during which Robin Williams was announced to have died and done so very well indeed.
Gamal is excellent and no qualms about him taking a bigger role, he's much better than Sophy Ridge, but Sophy seems to be more highly thought of, doing flagship bulletins when she is not at that level.
I know I brought some names into it in my original post but this shouldn't be about the newer presenters who I believe are not at the level of those that have been sanctimoniously sacked, this should be about the disgrace of sacking 3 of your longest serving, most loyal and professional staff.
John Ryley and his management team should hang their heads in shame over such a move. And to try and bury this decision in the middle of an extremely busy news week so it will receive less media attention is appalling. I sincerely hope ITN and/or the BBC recognise the talent that Ryley and his cohorts clearly don't.
All of these high-quality journalists being dropped like a stone, yet La Burley is still being shoved in our face! She must have something on someone at Sky - it's the only logical explication.
Like it or not Kay Burley is one of the faces of the channel whilst the trio released are, although long associated with Sky News, primarily weekend presenters and relief. Their strategy clearly is to take out that middle layer which is probably relatively expensive compared to the role they play.
I guess the worry for some of Sky's bigger names is they might now actually have to work 5 days a week.
I actually like Kay Burley, I know that sometimes she can be a bit too much in your face and can come across very badly, but she has a very fast mind and she does not let anyone bully her in an interview and she asks the questions that people want to hear the answers to, if you have an interview with Burley she will not suffer fools easily, I'm sick of interviewers who allow themselves to be bullied and don't challenge the people they are interviewing.
The Mirror article has been removed and Mark is on now so it remains to be seen how true that article was.
Mark and Lorna... A shame but they weren't well used. Andrew Wilson I would be astonished by - he was one of the channels most senior presenters. I'd always assumed he was the default replacement for Jeremy Thompson (who also is not particularly well used these days)
I think Gamal is awful. Yeah, he can read the autocue, but he brings no warmth or personality. You wanted to listen with the three who have just been let go. With Gamal, and to be fair Sophy too, you don't.
Does Dermot Murnaghan now only do his show on Sunday mornings. If so that seems a huge waste of someone of his calibre. He would be the natural successor to Jeremy Thompson IMO as the channels flagship newscaster.
