Ah, missed those bits! A lot of expense for Sky to go to, to send them out to Australia/NZ for over a fortnight. Wonder if it'll be Mark Robson/Shane Horgan or the likes for the Ireland match later.

As it happened Mark Robson and Alan Quinlan did indeed do the Ireland game.

This hasn't happened since the very early ITV F1 days. Martin Brundle is missing from the commentary box this weekend - due to a 'medical procedure' ( his words) preventing him from travelling.

The last time that happened it was when a race clashed with the start of the school holidays when his children were still at school. I think he also missed one due to competing at Le Mans.

Actually, he did continue to miss one race each year through the ITV years - and it tended to be Hungary in later years. The last race he missed was Hungary 2008.

Not sure who did the commentary this evening on the Top 14 rugby match on SS3. It sounded like Johnny Hammond, but I stated earlier that he did the commentary on the New Zealand v wales match from Eden Park, Auckland. Not only that, his co commentator, Ieuan Evans, was in Auckland. So, did he do it off tube from New Zealand, the top 14 match, or was Hammond in London, and evans in Auckland?

I have once looked into the logistics of doing commentary half from on site, and half from a studio (a co-commentator missed their flight), and it would be pretty much impossible to do satisfactorily because of the delays involved.

I think I know the occasion to which you are referring. Mr Darke was stood down from the stadium, wasn't he, and a stand-in commentator (Simon Brotherton, ISTR) joined up with the stranded co-commentator to do the commentary off-tube?

Got the answer. Sky's commentator for the top 14 this weekend is Simon Ward. Not sure if it's on site or off tube though.

Coverage of the Triathlon in Leeds has just fallen off air on BBC Two.

It came back after a couple of minutes.

It seems as though all BBC channels fell off air on satellite around the same time, probably not connected though

Unless the downlink site for the OB is the same place as the BBC's Astra uplink site ? Wink

What is the point of having a main and reserve circuit from the OB if they both go through the same downlink facility?
