I'm really hoping this topic doesn't descend into rants about The Channel Four Daily like last time.......anyway, here goes....

I was wondering if anyone knows the precise date when these News at Ten titles debuted?

I'm pretty certain it was some time in 1985, but a month or date would be really good if anyone can remember that far back. I'm sure I read somewhere that ITN's tapes of the News at Ten music were knackered by this point, having been used since 1967, and that K P M went back to the original master tape of The Awakening to re-cut the title music for these titles. No idea if that is true - but the music does sound a bit crisper on these than earlier examples from the 1970s and early 1980s.

It was 1985 but when, i would also like to know,. The previous look come in around October.c 1982, while the 88 look was deffo in use by May.

In May 85 it was using still using the 82 titles.

IN November 1985 it was using the new front.

I thought it was in September, but I might be wrong on that.

It was certainly later than 10th May 1985, as there is a Youtube clip showing the old style titles.

This is also the look when Carol Barnes started reading the news at ten, which she continued to do so until early 89.

Did you know Sue read the news at ten?

So it was some time between May - September 1985. Also Fiona Armstrong, I believe also read the news at ten, Everyone read the news at ten along with the News at 5.45 ( - expect Sandy and Alastair B)

It depends how far back you go - although I don't think Alastair Burnet or Sandy Gall presented the early evening news in the late 80s/early 90s, Alastair Burnet was the launch presenter of the News at 5:45 between September 1976 and approx. 1978. I think Sandy may also have been a relief - as was Leonard Parkin - around this time, but I can't be sure. Sandy definitely presented occasional weekend / bank holiday bulletins during the mid-to-late 80s.
