200 non-industry people is rather optimistic Jon. I admire your pro local tv stance, but yet there's still only four channels which are really providing the goods, Notts TV, Mustard TV and the two STV channels in Glasgow and Edinburgh while Made relies on tacky stunts which are akin to commercial radio of the 90s/00s.

Are you saying that such stunts don't work? Because they seemed to serve commercial radio very well and I'd say that commercial radio is the closest comparison that can be drawn to these local TV stations.

You can't compare large commercial radio stations such as those operated by Global and Bauer with their huge budgets to local tv. The only fair comparison with commercial radio are the tinpot ones which rely on similar tacky stunts to maintain a low share of the market.

In any case, local radio at least has something you may listen to, where as local tv on the whole doesn't.

Well that's the point though LL, it's even more important for local TV to be doing this kind of stunt!

I'll agree to disagree there as both low budget radio and tv are largely dire. There are other ways of marketing these cheap as chips channels without copying archaic marketing from Radio Dire.

Are you going to suggest any? Because as far as I can see it has achieved press attention which can't be deemed as a failure for a low cost stunt.

No, because unlike you, I don't have a financial interest in keeping these channels on-air.

You seem to be blurring two separate points of discussion into one. I'm not entering into a debate about the future of local television, I'm talking about the publicity stunt.

Reading and Salisbury's local TV services were supposed to have launched by the end of this week, under the standard 'launch within two years or lose your licence' clause that applies to all local TV licence awards. No sign of anything happening yet?

And both won by That's TV. Considering they can barely keep those channels they launched on-air and acquired Manchester and Preston/Blackpool which appears to have diverted their focus away from their southern local channels, they should lose those licences and be re-advertised.

Would they even bother readvertising considering they suspended further expansion.

Are the non-local channels on the local mux on air in the area?

Notts TV has just celebrated its 2nd birthday.

What is noteworthy is how much of original launch programming and presenter line-up is still in place today. The main additions being the extension of broadcasting hours from a 4pm start to all day broadcasting and the simulcast of the Sam & Amy breakfast show on Gem 106.

For those interested, Estuary TV's ident music can be found on the Audio Network. The track name is called 'Skin Deep' and it is by Tim Devine / Pete Masitti.
