Could they have went from GMB to a programme title slide reading "This Morning" with no music, and then mixed through to the studio?

That would have been optimal, but heaven forfend they don't get a chance to say that Trinny off've Trinny & Susannah is doing a fashion item later, so stay tuned, proles, cuz we promise we won't be doing the geopolitically-important stuff for long!

EDIT: Actually, while I stand by everything I've written above, I want to clarify it....

What "This Morning" does, and for the audience for which it does it, it arguably does better than any programme of its type ever has.

BUT... get the tone wrong and it risks alienating viewers, because trailing the fluffier stuff because they're afraid their core audience will tune away is actually more insulting (both to that core audience and others) than it is productive. They did that today, and I very much hope they learn from it.

That'll get the conspiracy theorists going. Random guy who interrupted the BBC's reporter at the airport seems to say he saw the police shooting at the start of the whole incident. Also a freeze up with the link just as the guy puts two fingers up to the camera.

None of the Irish channels appear to be doing anything extra, with the exception of UTV Ireland which ran with the ITV network coverage (a benefit, from their point of view, with it having come from GMB rather than ITN). They had no voiceover on the ident before This Morning, but that may not be unusual.

There was a 10 minute bulletin at 10am which was billed as a News special but it did cover other stories such as the Buncrana tragedy. RTÉ News Now is now live.

RTE News Now seems to have extended their hourly bulletins, with Angus Mac Grianna anchoring.

And just to add to that, they seem to be doing additional simulcasting with RTE Radio 1. They're also using live video footage from broadcasters in Belgium, obviously via the EBU satellite feeds.

ITV News must be on standby, Andrea McLean on Loose Women saying that if there are 'any major developments' they'll cross over to the news.

After some comments on the news and sympathy for the victims, it seems Loose Women are carrying on with a normal show.

GMB were sterling this morning, that programme does always show its worth with major news stories like this. On the other hand, This Morning felt very jarring today. Phillip explained how there were behind-the-scenes discussions with how to approach the programme today, however they seemed to provide very little updates, which I thought they would have. For example, at 11am/12pm they were happy, laughing, smiling etc when I felt it would've been better to recap the news for viewers.

I do think this is the right thing to do. Let's not forget that widespread media coverage is a specific aim of the people who carry out these kind of attacks.
Inspector Sands, JRY and Brekkie gave kudos
