Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

I would be surprised if the episodes were "missing" as in fell through the wiping machine. Big differences between them being physically missing, not accounted for and "not available", which covers a multitude of sins.

I think the chances of a major TV show from the late 90s/early 00s actually going physically missing is practically zero, as you said there was likely some other issues preventing them from being shown. Just because that's the way Challenge worded it doesn't mean that was actually the case.

I know there was quite a lengthy period when UK Gold were unable to show the final series of 2point4 Children, and they said it's because they "couldn't get the rights to it", and I can imagine that was a similar situation to Challenge and the early Millionaire series. Of course it is on rotation on there again now (and they did keep showing the 14:9 copies of that series well into the 2010s, long after they'd replaced the 14:9 copies of every other show, which I guess could have been down to the issues that had stopped them from showing it before, stopping them from acquiring new 16:9 masters).

I guess there is the TVS situation, but that seems be be unique, and even then I think most of the tapes still exist, it's the paperwork that went missing.

I also love some of Wikipedia's excuses for some of the idents: "Celebratory 27 September 2018 – present A multicoloured firework theme makes up the sides of the 2 curve, inspired by Firecracker from the 1991 set . Often used for entertainment, sport and music programming." Oh yes because a 2 being damaged by firecrackers definately inspired someone at Superunion to create an ident with fireworks. Totally.

I do feel the current lot maybe don't exist without the likes of Optics, Diary, and Cooper Cut-Out.

The association with Firecracker, however, is decidedly flimsy.

Seriously! Also holy crap someone actually removed any references to the 2's from the Wikipedia page!

Looks like we are getting a TV statement to the nation tomorrow as well as a statement in Parliament.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/13265156/boris-johnson-christmas-covid-tough-tiers/

Quote:
The PM will address Parliament with his post-lockdown and Christmas plans tomorrow, before giving a televised address to the public.

The tabloids refer to every time the PM appears at a daily press conference as a ‘televised address’ though to raise the drama and the clicks, so it may be one of those, unless confirmed elsewhere.

"televised address" so people can "take to Twitter to complain about the colour of Boris's tie", which seems to imply they aren't paying attention if they have time to condense their half-arsed musings into 140 characters or whatever it is these days.

I know people like to pass comment on every little thing on TV (and life in general) but do they seriously "take to Twitter"? Wouldn't they already be on Twitter? Can you take to something you're already on?

BBC Newsline In Form of July 2019 Reith Regional News Look

Can only echo what Ittr has said. You’ve changed a template around (which in itself isn’t completely accurate, the wipe to the programme title is too fast and not as fluid as the official sequence) without taking it apart and working with it to create even part of a full sequence.

I’d keep going with this rather than binning and deleting it as per many of your other mocks, but work on other shots in the sequence and, talking from a stylistic point of view and also bearing in mind this may help broaden your horizons in After Effects and give you a challenge: maybe find a way to include the Newsline yellow/amber in the rings along with the BBC News red.

Exactly what is said here; the original template was made in my spare time for people to mess with and have an idea on how to change it, all you've done is change the programme name, BBC News box and place names and insert your own footage.

Look at how the individual elements come together and go from there - don't just assume because you have a template it's 'your' work. As rfr1 has also said it's not a 100% accurate template at that!

Best and worst idents from each BBC1 and BBC2 set post-1991?

BBC 1 1997-2002: Best: no opinion, they're all just places with the balloon flying over really. Worst: 1998 Christmas (where the f--- is the balloon? or ANY BACKGROUND ELEMENTS???

2002-2006: I really think that they're all meh, so no opinion really.

2006-2016: Once again, really no opinion. they're circles, they lasted a decade, they're good.

2017-Present: I can't really have an opinion because I've only seen Tea Breaks whenever I'm "legitimately" watching the BBC News at 1/6 (now that Bread Makers is in the mix here, I'll be able to watch that one at 1....er-6, 1 over here in New York.

BBC 2 1991-2001; 2015-2018: Best: Car. Worst: that one christmas ident with the screaming fairy at the beginning (1998? I know it was after the logo change)

2001-2007: Best: Fire. Worst: Bounce and its varients (the 2 doesn't do anything really, in all the other ones it moves or at least does something.)

2007-2014: Best: Titanic (Copper Cut-Out and Silk BGM) Worst: the Tagging set (why? just why?)

2018-Present: Best:(tries to think of good Curve ident) Punchy (it's seemingly a nod to the 1974 ident, with the '79 orange and '91 viridian colors) Worst: Captivating (jeez, TSW's original ident had a higher framerate than this s***) and Feel Good (the sounds make me Feel Uncomfortable).

Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Did anyone say they were actually physically "missing", or more that it took Challenge a while to sort out the rights? As that can happen sometimes.

When they announced that they "found" S1-S4, they made the point that they were "long assumed to be missing" and not that the rights were an issue: see these tweets from them back when they actually used the site:

During the re-broadcast of these, they made reference to issues with the tapes that they were given, such as terrible sound issues in one: https://twitter.com/ChallengeTV/status/566282711405715457

From this, you could deduce that the tapes they got (which were clearly broadcast versions, although they could've been originals: the assumption is they were broadcast versions due to all the OSG's they had to cover up/edit out) were already damaged in some way (it was lucky ig that so many were actually usable), and clearly some were either not even provided or unusable for broadcast (in those rebroadcasts, the aspect ratios were sometimes movie-like, rather than broadcast-like).

What do you mean "movie like"? Do you mean black bars top and bottom?

More likely they were 14:9, there wouldn't have been any real incentive to do any other ratio. At that time it would have 4:3 or 16:9 protected for 14:9. Note that YouTube uploads are almost always not a real indication of what went out, since people can and do do stretchyvision on non-widescreen material but anyway...

Sound issues on Challenge material isn't anything new, sometimes they get mashed up when pulled. Fun House had this issue as well where the sound was unique and it looks like for some reason a portion of the audio was to be changed (presumably it was on another audio track) and so the entire thing got mashed together on the end result.

I would be surprised if the episodes were "missing" as in fell through the wiping machine. Big differences between them being physically missing, not accounted for and "not available", which covers a multitude of sins.

It was shown during last night’s I’m A Celebrity for the first time, though tonight’s would’ve made more sense as surely more viewers will be watching tonight.
