I think it would be a refreshing change to have someone new doing the news on ITV. In recent years ITN along with ITV bosses have forgotten about the viewers and concentrated more on ratings. Personally, I think the quality of the news broadcasts has also gone downhill.

Anyway, it is not as if ITN are going to dissapear forever, they also have Channel4 News, 5 News and their own news channel, they'll be fine if they lose the ITV license. It might even give them the wake up call they so sorely need!

Roll on Sky News style news on ITV1!!!!

I am surprised to see no-one wants BBC News on ITV?

I voted for Sky News, as it is more realistic, but still i expected to see a few votes.

ah well...

ITN always use the same 'Style' of news, it's time for a change. Channel 3 News (may as well just call it Sky News) seem to be the best choice, because they could have a new style, and more correspondents (e.g. some Sky News ones proabably and maybe even some CBS News ones). Channel 3 News might get the contract for commercial reason because ITV compaines Granada and Carlton want to own more of ITN, but are not allowed by the governement to own more than 20% because ITN is currently the ITV news provider. But if that changed, then they would have no restrictions.

If it was possible I would have BBC but I think we should give Sky News a try to see how they do on ITV

I like the idea of Sky News doing it. They're not necessarily the best thing in the whole world ever, but are definately better than ITN (although thats perhaps not much of a statement!)

I suppose theoretically there would be another possibility, as ITN isn't the only freelance news organistaion around - there's Reuters too! I believe GMTV get their news from Reuters (they certainly did in the early days of The Newshour).

As I watch GMTV about as often as hell freezes over, I don't know if Reuters' news is up to much or not though.

May I just point out that it is not Sky News who will be winning the contract.
No reporters, anchors or pictures from Sky News will be used. They are simply just part of a large consortium.
I know this is reffered to as a Sky Consortium, but it is not.

Oh and let's be realistic.
Is it ITN's fault that the news is so bad? Will it really change because another company comes in?
ITN provide excellent news programmes for Channel 4 and 5 - it is really nothing to do with ITN... it's not their fault.
The news would not improve at all - it would simply be a different company running it.
What makes people think that a different company would change the style of programming?
It's ITV's fault the news has got this bad - it's ITV's editors who work on the programme, it's ITV's people who decide what happens with the contract.
ITN are an excellent company, I feel sorry for them for having to provide the news for ITV - it is actually damaging their repuation.

I agreee with you there, C4 and C5 news are excellant, and shows ITN's versatility, ITV news won't get any better until they realise what proper news is.

Maybe ITV should not bother having news at all. After all, in this age of digital/satellite/cable and all that, there are now zillions of channels, most of which (24 hour rolling news channels aside) don't include any news bulletins as part of the schedule ever.

Even if you just have analogue terrestrial, so only see five channels, it doesn't change the fact that zillions of channels exist.
BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 are in a minority by having news bulletins in amongst the mixture of programming they provide. Would it really matter if that 'minority' was reduced further by a matter of one channel?

What do you think?

Excellent point... can't think of anything other to say than... yes, I agree!
But one thing to look forward to is this... whatever happens, whether C3News wins or ITN wins... there's going to be a new look for ITV News.
