Even if that attempt simply reinforces all the worst stereotypes of low-budget, parochial regional TV?
A question to those people who dislike the dull, flat delivery of UTV and STV trailer voices... would you be mortally offended if UTV and STV left the NPU voices on?

Seriously, UTV's voiceovers may ot have the same impact as the network trailers, but at least it's an attempt at enforcing a local identity for a local station on screen.

I think it would be brilliant and add a touch of class to the STV voices. It is such a waste of the NPU team going to the trouble they do to produce high quality promos and the voices do match each style of promo at STV they just V/O over them and they do sound a bit flat and boring .I doubt anyway that the viewers would even care .

I think you're very probably right. But I can imagine STV and UTV insisting that civilisation would collapse and the sky would rain blood and frogs if the good people of Scotland and Northern Ireland heard anything other than Scottish or Irish voices on ITV trailers.

Do they include the over-enthusiastic bloke who used to proudly belt out of his lungs... "on Yorrrrrkssssshiiiiiire!". Hmmm... Our Aidan comes pretty close this end with his "on u-teee-veeeeeee!" His Building the Dream (daytime ITV1 reversion) being particularly memorable!

I bet Yorkshire's regional promos are a better overall package than UTV and Scottish's national ones.

If you mean Pete Haslam, I'm afraid Granada made him redundant last year when the regional programmes had to make the trailers themselves.
At the moment on Granada we have a boring one for 'Are You Still Being Serviced?' with an ethusiastic Kevin Kennedy and one for 'Bootsale Challenge' with Ted Robbins in vision saying he's looked around a car boot sale and ate bacon sandwiches all morning.

He's still on Yorkshire carrying on as normal with the enthusiastic voiceovers. How this came about I don't know, maybe he was made redundant from GMG North Presentation Department and then re-employed by Yorkshire TV!
All YTV's trailers are currently done by him except the one for Theme Park which is voiced by Patsy Kensit.
