Can't believe this, only this week UPC replaced MTV+1 with MTV R and now TMF becomes another entertainment channel. For me VIVA was always the pop/europop European brand. I used to love tuning in when over in France/Spain/Italy and Germany. The model was simple, play great pop music which you could never get back home on MTV. Granted, I haven't see the channel as much these days, but really detest this washing of the brand, making it pure entertainment. Is there now any difference between MTV/MTV R/VIVA? All the same content really.

For us poor Freeview viewers it would be nice to have a refresh of one of the two "music" channels

IMO not if it means less music

Personally I miss The Hits, far less countdowns and more 'current' music. Plus they were on at breakfast. And apart from when they had 4 music Sundays, no non-music programming

plus there's was more older hits as well which I liked. 4Music is just targeted at yobos who watch TZZZZ (T4) and like r'n'b. The Hits aimed at different music audiences which was good.

VIVA Germany schedule - http://www.viva.tv/TV/Programm/ - gives an idea about what might be on the UK version.

Well if its a music channel destined for the UK, it will be not good.

4Music is not aimed at "yobbo's who like R'n'B" at all!

Well I think it is.

I would think people who watch T4 would be more indie-ish, than urban.

There's a big billboard on the M40 in London with the VIVA logo and "up your" scawled across the top in graffitti.

It also uses the slogan 'spanking new', which for some reason marketing people think connects with the younger generation.

Quite surprised they haven't gone for the triangular VIVA logo they use on a lot of their channels across the continent.

Could this be because BOX's logo is spelled out with shapes and viewers may have incorrectly connected the channels? Shame as it's a lot easier on the eye than what they're going with.

TMF's transformation into MTV on Freeview has been on the cards for the last year or so (around the time they started adding 'Music' underneath their DOG to alert viewers that they do still show music videos sometimes, leading to a naming situation TVS would have been proud of).
