I know that the UKtv network is a joint venture between the BBC and Flextech, but does anyone know where they source their BBC material from? I mean does it come from the BBC Worldwide sales library or directly from Windmill road?

If they get them from Windmill road, would a programmes associated paperwork be with it, or is that housed in the Written Archives?

It is sold to them by BBC Worldwide, just like any othe rbroadcaster..... the programmes ultimately come from Windmill Road as that's where they are stored.

UKTV (or any broadcaster) don't use the original copies straight from the library though. They are copies which have been re-edited to create ad breaks and make them confom to ITC/Ofcom guidelines (known as compliance). They are also converteded to 4:3.

Sorry, a bit off the topic but does anyone know where UKTV broadcasts from? Is it TVC?

Currently, yes - BBC Broadcast deals with this. Transmission is likely to move to the Broadcast Centre later this year however.

Speaking of the adding of breaks, it seems that at the time they were bought in the copies of some programs break bumpers were burned onto copies because occasionally when breaks come up or a break is just about to end you will occasionally see a UK Gold break bumper from the mid to late 90s

Well, it would be a bit careless to send the original tapes to another broadcaster, in case they got lost!
