Isn't it a sad case of today's reality that only BBC ONE took time out for the two minutes silence - the other networks ignored it.

As has been pointed out in another thread, which of the two silences is the most important? The one at 1100 on the 11/11, or the one on Remembrance Sunday?

Equal in my opinion, if any takes priority it has to be the Sunday one coinciding with the ceremonies in Whitehall.

Radio stations were a lot better though, most of them in London took the chimes of Big Ben and did the two minutes silence. BBC R2 and co did the Last Post as well.

The only one which completely ignored the proceedings and didn't have the two minutes silence, chimes of Big Ben or the Last Post was Kiss 100 - typical; not having any respect for the war dead probably because it doesn't have any relevance to today's "yoof".

In the last few years the one on the 11/11 has been declared the main event, which the main networks did observe on Friday.

Another thing, in the People today they are trying to slag C4 off as their newsreader have not worn poppies. C4 pointed out it's up to presenters, while Jon Snow pointed out he hasn't worn a poppy on-air in 16 years.

Surprising really that the people who right the People actually watch C4 News!

Any radio stations forget to turn off the silence detectors this year?

I had a flick through at 11am during the silence and only BBC One, BBC News 24, Sky News, ITV News, Sky Sports News and QVC took the silence, every other channel that I flicked through carried on as normal. I happened to flick through most of the Radio stations and they were even on silence, even 1Extra BBC was doing it, which is something you wouldn't expect, but glad to see.

I agree with DVB Cornwall's comments, it's still just as important on both Armistice Day and Rememberence Sunday and it's a shame a lack of Broadcast reflected this.

Some people in the tv and radio service don't have respect for veterans they think time is money! Shocking

Ideal World had a slide up with "In Remembrance" and a poppy next to it, with a dark grey silky background.

Christ. Why should ALL channels have to observe a two minutes silence??
Everyone can access BBC One - if they want to have their silence then fine, but it doesn't need to be inflicted upon the rest of us.

Not really, having 2 events commemorating the same thing does devalue them both (as does having 2 minutes of silence at the drop of the hat as we seem to at the moment). The Armistice Day silence has only been observed for the last 10 years, Sunday is more important as it co-incides with church servcies and an offical event

If you're thinking "I wonder what the TV and radio channels are doing...I'll have a look" during a 2 minutes silence why bother at all? Rolling Eyes
