Five resurrected its DOG, God forbid!

To think that when it launched on Easter Sunday (as Channel 5), it had a DOG in the top left hand corner. When it rebranded itself as Five in September 2002, it dropped the DOG. Yet some time this year, it brought out a new DOG "five". Why did it need to start showing a DOG again? Their new year's resolution for 2008 should be to drop their DOG on all three of their channels: Five, Five Life and Five US permanently.

The official bull - sorry, explanation - is that "market research" had unveiled that people did not associate some of five's programmes with the channel, one being The Hotel Inspector.

I suggest, however, they had already made up their mind to bring back the DOG no matter what.

This time it was presented by Vernon Kay, who funnily enough happened to be a contestant in the previous series of Gameshow Marathon in autumn 2005.

I think we all had a good chortle at that one.

Maybe five bringing back the DOG was them trying to be retro.
