You can look here for information on creating a toolbar, or as Microsoft call them - tool bands, for IE:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/shellcc/platform/shell/programmersguide/shell_adv/bands.asp

If anyone knows how to program in C++ then they can do it. I cant but here are some things i've found while searching web, might help:

Example Program here : http://www.codeproject.com/wtl/toolband.asp
PDF Guide : http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~cfchen/pub/creating_band_object_using_atl_ctrl.pdf
Microsoft Sample from KB : http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q246/2/34.ASP

Found these searching Google for "tool bands"+sample . In the hope of finding code which can be adapted.

Any wiz kids out there, its up to u Wink

N.B. I can program in Visual Basic so if anyone finds any code samples of tool bands in VB I can base it on PM me and I'll have a go Very Happy

In theory, someone could turn the current forum titles into some kind of RSS or XML feed, and it could be read by all manner of RSS/XML ticker software for a variety of platforms. I don't know if this integrates well with PHPBB, but it could be possible.

It looks fairly straightforward... it's just an activex control that implements a couple of extra interfaces to handle messages from internet explorer and the shell.

It isn't that complex, but it would be easier for the site admin to create a webpage and to simply use active desktop

Just found a VB sample with Type files etc here:

http://www.mvps.org/emorcillo/

Have to log back in as Admin to install though and I cant be bothered. Will look tomorrow.

I agree with Dr Sigmund Mohammad though, Active Desktop would be easier, if not as stop-gap until the toolbar is written Confused

If Asa is about maybe he should be involved sooner since this is his forum, he's going to have to do some of the work to get it working anyway. He'll probably tell us to naff off and refuse to do it, I probably would Very Happy

Anyone willing to make something similar for those that don't use Internet Explorer and/or Windows?

In fact, anyone willing to learn XUL, so a TVF bar can be made for users of Mozilla based browsers?
