Got mine installed the other day, I've never had a proper PVR before and it's pretty damn decent. It works similar to Sky+, the suggestions thing is a good idea, you can search actor, programme name etc, which I've found to be useful. But I'm no pro with it yet so as others have said look around online.

'Tivo' was (and probably still is) very much the American generised trademark for a PVR in the way that 'Sky Plus' is here. Of course the US doesn't have a single dominant TV platform like here and the original Tivo worked with any cable or satellite box.
When it launched in the UK it had a kind of alliance with Sky but that went away once Sky+ was launched. It went away until last year when they teamed up with Virgin to provide their PVRs
