How long has The Bill been showing with filmic effect? I'm guessing it's just for the 25th anniversary but it's looking odd right now. Confused

It wasn't filmic last week, it's probably just for this week's special episodes

I was just about to ask this. I flicked through the channels and didn't realise that this was The Bill until one of the characters turned up. When did this happen?

I had a feeling this would be asked.

It's just for this week's episodes.

They might as well keep it if you ask me, people got used to it with Casualty.

Just looked into this and it's a cross over with German cop show SOKO: Leipzig, these episodes will also be shown in Germany. So I guess it made sense to have it in the same format of that show, if this is indeed the format used by SOKO: Leipzig.

They can use this as a test of how people react to the filmic effect.

looks much better. Much more classy. It doesn't feel alienating at all like it did with Holby/Casualty.

I agree it makes the show look more classy. When Casualty first tried it years ago the filmic effect wasn't as good as it is now and it just looked fuzzy. Nowadays it is much better. How does this technique work?

I didn't realise though that so many shows that I thought were film were actually shot on tape and the effect added later, The Office for example.

Isn't it more to do with it being filmed in HD and then being downscaled - akin to Home and Away on Five - giving it the 'filmic' look.

It did look very nice, and in a weird way did give it an upmarket feel, in my opinion. And much better than when it happened to Emmerdale a few years ago.

From last week it's in HD but didn't notice it last week.

Looks like they're showing off with the cameras.

These special episodes were both shot on High Definition cameras; a first for The Bill. Added to the mix are adventurous and awesome locations; collaboration between UK and German writers and a filmic Director of Photography – an action-packed pair of celebratory episodes.
