Bit of a random topic, but a break from discussion on Eurovision or Good Morning Britain.

I've been having a nostalgia trip on YouTube, and, despite them pretty much being the soundtrack of my youth, I've only just noticed...

This...

and this...

and this...

...are all variations on the same theme, are they not? I believe all three were composed by David Arnold, but I've never really noticed the similarity until today. The end melody of the CBBC theme is identical to a large part of The BB's theme, and there are striking similarities between The BB and L&K's theme.

Is it just me?

I seem to remember reading that The Big Breakfast's chord sequence was identical to a 60s/70s chart song, but the name escapes me at the moment.

Are there any other theme tunes that sound familiar, or sound like chart songs possibly.

That's the one! Surely an accident...?

Definately notice the link between The Big Breakfast and Children's BBC - not so much with L&K. I vaguely remember the Adam and Joe Show having a similar theme too.

P.S. How brilliant are those Children's BBC idents - far better than anything that's followed.

The bit where the ball bounces over the satellites in the L&K titles is very similar to a Big Breakfast break sting, and there is an extended version of the original BB theme which was used over the top of early promos/items which uses it.

Not forgetting there's also the film composer called David Arnold (who has also done work for TV, Little Britain etc).

Yes and the classic story about Liquid News playing a montage of the L&K, BB, CBBC titles to introduce him, only for him to say they'd got the wrong guy.

An interesting pair I noted - compare the original music for the BBC One Helicopter ident

with the intro to the BBC's 2006 adaptation of Sweeney Todd...

The sheer similarity in style is uncanny.

These probably link in to a topic I opened a while back discussing familiar audio samples used in idents and pres - which might be worth a look if you haven't already. Seems safe to assume both were sourced from the same set of samples / recordings.
