Well, it looks certain that the World Snooker final is going to go on past last year's latest-ever finish (which IIRC was about 12.45) - with the way these two have been playing, there's even a chance it could crash into The Learning Zone

About 12.15, I think. No chance whatsoever of this year's overtaking the 1985 ratings - that really was a special event, when snooker was at its absolute peak as a TV sport.

Sorry for that I am stupid. Wink

But if the snooker overuns to after 12, why dont they play the final the next day.

How an overrunning live event impacts on schedules is "pointless" on a TV presentation forum?

It was quite a good final TBH, but judging by the speed of the game, you knew that at 8pm it was going to overrun. Coverage finished at 1.05am, they didn't show the Film, but they showed Ruddy Hell! It's Harry and Paul instead, two hours later.

Lends credance to the argument for a BBC Sport channel perhaps, but maybe the WSA need to consider starting evening sessions at 7:00pm.

And yes it wasn't an interesting final for fans...if Selby had won it would have devalued the World Championship even further, and John Higgins isn't the most charismatic or interesting of players.

I'm no snooker fan, but it happens once a year, with the BBC scheduling programmes after it which are designed to be dropped.

The BBC do seem to under-estimate the length of each session though - though they probably think it's better to schedule programmes which might be shown in the event of an early finish rather than put them in at the last minute if the snooker finishes early.

To be honest I can't remember hearing about a snooker final that hasn't over run.

There's been a couple, although I'm not sure about the World Championship (two or three years ago, I think, it finished early, but not sure). Certainly, there's been occasions when they've had to pull out an old Steptoe and Son or somesuch to plug a gap.
