Thanks for the video. I think they might actually be my favourite Sky Sports idents to date. So simple but really eye catching.

I had the new SSN HQ graphics on Sky News from a big TV in the Pub earlier in the day and I have to say that the new graphics are a big improvement from the last ones. They are very clean to use and very functional to use on screen. When the sports news is fed from Sky News, they would still use the old SSN set for those bulletins.

Apart from the ridiculous name change. Everything else looks extremely good so far.

Interesting - so are they actually pushing the idea of each channel being themed around a particular sport, or is there more than one ident for each channel?

They have generally stuck to the Football/Cricket/Tennis/Golf structure for a while now, with other sports slotted around wherever really.

Judging from the idents on Sky Sports News HQ there are a few more football, golf and European football idents. Pity Sky Sports F1 was not rebranded Sky Sports 6 - Your Home of Formula 1. Otherwise the other channels may as well be renamed to Sky Sports Golf, Sky Sports Cricket etc.

The problem is if you do that, where to you put the Rugby, WWE, Fishing, etc.?
At least with the numbered channels they have the flexibility.

Yes I would agree with that and to be clear I was in support of just having numeral channels. However all the numbered channels idents have now been themed around one sport. with announcements ''Your Home of Cricket'

1. Football
2. Cricket
3. Tennis
4. Golf
5. European Football
F1. Formula 1

If Sky Sports 4 isn't called Sky Sports Golf and 2 Cricket etc. Why shouldn't Sky Sports F1 not be renamed to Sky Sports 6. It would look more organised if there was Sky Sports News HQ and Sky Sports 1-6.

It can't be under the terms of Sky's agreement with F1. The channel is essentially a joint venture between Sky and FOM with FOM owning copyright to anything broadcast on it.

Sky is allowed to use the F1 logo and present itself as the UK's official F1 channel.

Be prepared for potential confusion on your local pub: the Sky Sports channel number swap has not taken place on commercial subscriptions.

The pub versions are actually separate channels and I think have 'hidden' EPG positions, but just labelled on the now/next banner as 401 etc.

It was quite a few years ago when someone showed me this, and it was on an SD digibox, so it may not be the same on the more advanced HD boxes which can map different channels to the same EPG position depending on the subscription.

The HD swap never happened on pub subscriptions, cue pubs showing footy in SD on 401 because the bar staff don't realise

and the sd pub versions of these channels have poor SD quality compared to domestic which runs at 704x576 but the pub ones are 544x576!
