To sum up what we have gathered.
Sky news changed their astons/music before the election.
Sky then layed off some Sky News Employees.
The Book show and others have come to a recent end.
Sky news are at the moment broadcasting from a temp studio.
I read before all this, that Sky News were to relaunch to coincide with the said close down to analogue sat services. - this close is due to happen for the 1/7.
This coupled with information of a delay due to Foot and Gob, and mutterings about this issue well before the changes in graphics and astons.

So we can safely say that there is big exciting things happening at sky news soon.

So,
What should the new logo look like?
What do we hope the studio will be?
What major changes to the schedule need to be implemented???
and
What will happen to Sky News Active? - Chesh mentioned 8 vid screens.

Lets keep this going till the launch,

Thoughs please....

Our the astons going to be updated or anything - or are they staying pretty much the same. Also, do we know if the look they currently have (graphics that is) is going to be the look of the re-launched Sky News (I know that it would make sense that they'd be the same, or based on the same principal - but I just want to know if anyone has any official confirmation). And will there be the return of 'Sunrise' 'Today' '9 and 10 O'Clock News'? thanks

BTW I'd like to say that I like the revamped posting page -- it's a lot easier to figure out the 'special' things that we can do (for those illiterate in HTML or whatever it is!) thanks Asa.

Sky world news today [10:30] had an ident all of it's own.

It was the same as the main ident but after the logo flew in 'world news' flew in and appeared underneath the sky news logo

Yes and it could have come from the temporary studio as the background was white with the globe on (as per background of current logo) with 'world news' written to the left of the presenter. Looked quite good, in my opinion!

A lot of information as you have gathered is not going to be very easily accessible!

Sky are keeping all this stuff close to their chests, and no official release, to my knowledge, and to the knowledge of the AP has come out yet...

As for the idents, i think you will find that they will stay the same or will be similar, as you are looking at v.2 of the graphic (sky source)

It will indeed be interesting to see what happens

Cheers

One thing that I want to know is why do they used a different headline bed overnight from 12?

They don't operate a joint service or stations opt into the channel do they? I just wondered as it doesn't sound a good with the ident!

Also, as Chesh pointed out, the dots on the menu up to the hour had gone but on overnight they are there!!! Also the date is not centered properly in the bar and is nearer the bottom of the box and sometimes goes out of it!

Why such a difference overnight?

i think sky have a different team overnight, so the obviously use the older graphix

Notice what the menu says overnight - nothing about news, but a rather generalised menu, for example:

NEWS
The latest developments

SPORT
Up-to-date sport

WEATHER
International weather

and stuff like that.

The top of the hour menus are done two different ways.

During core hours 06.00 - 23.00 - they are run from the graphics department, and the producer writes the headlines that are superimposed over the sting. However, the file with the menu and opening sting, also lasts about another minute or so, and has the headline bed, and provides the generic world background that is used between each headline.

However, as overnights are run with less staff, Sky News transmission generate the top of the hour menu, hence a generic listing, rather than bulletin related headlines.

This means that sound run the headlines bed. Conclusion : when the top of the hour stings were changed, they didn't update the generic one that transmission use overnight, and the sound department must have a different sounding bed than the one used during the day.

Sorry for dragging this out, I have tried to be brief!

Very interesting, I love technical stuff like that - thanks!

Well, i'm still going for a Sky Sports.com TV style studio. I had a proper look at the studio today and if you look at it in pictures it looks really good.
For those of you who haven't seen it, it is basically one large newsroom but all split up into different section by boards with spotlights on them.
It looks pretty good anyway.
Then the studio is elevated above the newsroom in a sort of balcony style, it looks pretty good anyway, and I guess they will take the old plasma screens out of the current studio (it would be a shame to waste them!) and where the football guy is on the SS.comTV studio, they could put a massive plasma screen.
SS.comTV is channel 413 on SkyD and the best time to see the studio is every 30 mins exactly.

I think the astons may be slightly different and the new logo remains to be seen.
I recon the new logo will have to be curved otherwise it just wouldn't fit!

On the subject of Active, it is getting 8 feeds, as Sky bought extra bandwidth for it at the start of the year, I guess it is already to be put in place and it can be changed over quite easily, just like they did on Election Night.
I don't have a clue about the schedule but my guess would be just more news with less of the feature programming. We'll just have to wait and see about that one, no doubt it is already sorted and ready to be put into place.

there is a trailer running on sky, i just saw it, and i could of sworn i saw a sky news active logo on blue backing, written in the corporate font and in the same way as movies active.

i will try snap it, but it is fast moving so no guarantees i can get a clear shot.
