I'd say it was likely also true of Live & Kicking, in the Zoe & Jamie years at least. I doubt celebs were queuing up to go on during the Steve & Emma series!
Something sort-of related, can't remember if it was MoM or Saturday Showdown (think it was the latter), they had Jack Osbourne filling in for Stephen for a couple of weeks, or at least that was the plan. Then at the end of his first show he said he wasn't coming back- and he didn't! So I guess that tells you what a good time he had doing the show!
Also can anyone remember the period in 2001 where CITV re-ran Chums as the last show of the day for several weeks? Not sure if they showed every episode up to the present, though I do remember them taking a break part way though, possibly once they reached the Summer 2000 break. Then in 2005 they were repeating the Name That Tone segment from MoM later in the week.
There have been other examples of Saturday morning shows seeing people show up just because they were passing. There were a couple of occasions when French and Saunders were on Going Live when they hadn't been booked, they happened to be in TV Centre that day and they were mates with Saz so popped in and got on air. There's also clips on YouTube of Paul McCartney and Jeremy Beadle (another friend of Saz, I think) phoning up *, which illustrates further the wide appeal of that show, everyone watched it. Saz used to say a lot of people used to go on because their kids told them, I know Saz said her favourite bit ever was watching Sting looking really worried backstage and going through his lines because he didn't want to mess up going on with Trevor and Simon.
